2009 sees Dutch trance icon Armin van Buuren knock fellow countryman Tiesto off his perch as Australia’s favourite international act. It’s no surprise, after all Armin managed to visit us twice; playing a short run of New Year festivals in January before returning for a full national tour in June. No rest for the wicked! 02. Tiesto
Tiesto has been making news in Australia of late when word came through that he’d personally selected our very own Sneaky Sound System to open for him on tour. What’s more, he’s collaborated with them on the first single from his new album. With a massive Australian tour planned for early 2010 you can bet he’ll be making a run for the #1 spot next year. 03. Deadmau5
A relative newcomer to the scene, Canadian upstart Joel Zimmerman - aka the man in the mask known as Deadmau5! - makes it to #3 in 2009 off the back of his dancefloor destroying Australian tour with the Good Vibrations Festival in February. Not to be outdone, he also released his debut artist album ‘Random Album Title’, and he’s coming back down under for Stereosonic later in 2009. Gold! [Article]

04. Daft Punk
The masked electro pioneers have gotten everyone in a tizz of late with news that they may head back to Australia in the near future to tour their hotly anticipated score for the Disney’s film ‘Tron Legacy’. With the memory of their all-conquering 2007 tour etched permanently in our subconscious, we eagerly await the chance to see what the helmet clad robots are capable of next. [Article]

05. Laidback Luke
Rounding out the top 5 it’s another frequently flying Dutchman, although this guy comes from decidedly housier stock. Laidback Luke has been on the scene for more than a few years, and in 2009 he gave his Australian fans something to talk about, tearing up festival stages across the country on a national tour. His name might suggest he likes to take things easy but that’s clearly not the case. [Interview]
