Many would say it was destiny. Dave Goode and Jonny Sonic – both Irishman looking for a new start in the Antipodes – left their homeland in 2001/2002 respectively. Jonny left to escape the restraints of Dublin, whilst Dave responded to the call from dance luminary Pete Tong who proclaimed that the Australian dance scene was “going off”. Both were looking to make things happen for themselves, but could never have predicted the impact they’d have.
The Potbelleez are now based in Kings Cross, Sydney and have played more than 150 shows across Australia in 2007 alone. ‘Don’t Hold Back’ is their latest single and it’s causing a buzz on dancefloors around the country. The video (check the link below!) was made by James Hackett, the two time ARIA Award winning director best known for his work with Silverchair, John Butler Trio, Missy Higgins and The Dissociatives. It was also co-written and produced by Sam Littlemore – writer and producer of tracks for Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado, Robbie Williams, The Veronicas, Pnau and Tonite Only. The Potbelleez performed ‘Don’t Hold Back’ live during the Big Brother finale to a TV audience of 1.9 million viewers, and the track was also featured on “Big Brother Up-Late” for the entire series.
