Sunday sessions are always a treat, and despite miserable weather all weekend, the sun did come out Sunday 20 November to cheer up spirits and set us up for one of the highlights of the KUBIK Melbourne schedule – DJ Krush.
With a line-up 170 artists strong, the Melbourne Music Week program has been announced. Nationwide jealousy ensues.
Following an extensive tour around Europe, DJ Krush hit The Corner Hotel for the Melbourne leg of his world tour.
There is not much that hasn't already been written about *DJ Krush*. His name is synonymous with downbeat, having been credited as the 'godfather of trip hop' and sitting beside DJ Shadow as one of the biggest names in the instrumental hip hop world.
DJ Krush is no stranger to Australia, having been here at least eight times already throughout his illustrious career.
Last time I ventured to the Oxford Art Factory it was to see Kentaro, a Japanese turntablist, and it turned out to be probably the best night I had in '07. So when I found out that Krush was also playing at the same venue, I got excited.
This was DJ Krush's fourth visit to Canberra. I was lucky enough to have seen the third and it was an amazing show, so I admittedly had high hopes for this one.

Having not been out for a fair while, I was keen to hear DJ Krush again, but also see what effect the new anti-smoking laws would have on the numbers at a gig of this magnitude.
An enthusiastic, yet surprisingly sparse crowd gathered within the newly established Electric Light Hotel to experience the smooth breakbeats and lush soundscapes provided by Japan’s DJ Krush.
No encores, just plenty of tasty food for thought, and some amazing steps along the journey from beats to fast breaks, stopping in at the ambient parking zone (the z-hole) along the way.
