Meredith is a bit unique in the Melbourne music scene: amidst the sea of hipsters checking their quiffs in the mirror there sits one friend who's happy to be gumbooted - happy to put Paul Kelly and Animal Collective side-by-side (at last!). It works.

On the 18th year God said "let there be rain", and there was rain. Forty-eight hours of it. Victoria's heaviest rainfall since Noah boarded the Ark, meant that the 18th Annual Meredith Music Festival was one of the wettest in its history.

With the Golden Plains festival Meredith is now practically competing with itself for the title of best festival in the country. This year's lineup included Sharon Jones, Ween, Future of the Left, Optimo, Jens Lekman, Kid Koala and the Dirtbombs.

The last and only Meredith I’ve ever been to was back in 2000, which was its 10th year. It was pretty small then. I remember being able to stand right up the front for any band I wanted to see. This year was a bit different!
