The Abercrombie was always a popular haunt for university students, particularly its Friday night Purple Sneakers parties. The hotel has been leased to Jaime Wirth, one of the Gang Bang DJs, and re-opened on July 22 after five weeks of refurbishments.
Described as a “Scottish pub meets American frat house”, the decor is a mix of tartan-covered booth seating, filled bookshelves and a cheeky assortment of paintings that range from bulldogs and bagpipe players to naked women.
Sydney’s re-opened Ambercrombie Hotel – home to parties from several prominent local crews – has sustained “significant damage” after a fire this morning.
After an extended absence, I returned to Purple Sneakers to rekindle all that's been missing from Sydney nightlife recently. I found a night with all the right characteristics, which lacked the pretentious atmosphere that many other nights hold.
To the promoters and organisers, thank you for such a fun, friendly and musically awesome event. To the attendees, you guys are fabulous fun and really make this event what it is, and BOY you can dance.
For those with the stamina to party on a school night, it was a Wednesday night drum n' bass fest with one of NZ's finest.
