While his name may not be as readily recognisable as the likes of Dixon or Henrik Schwarz, Swiss-born whiz Quarion is a key player in the new guard of house. And he’s bringing his wrap-around live set to Australia this month for The Berlin Sessions. Now based in the titular German city and signed to burgeoning imprint Drumpoet Community, Quarion is very much “in work mode”. Not being “the hardcore party guy, raving for three days,” he’s dedicating valuable hours to the studio.
His productions and remixes (for the likes of Class 71 and Sydney’s own Jamie Lloyd) continue to win favour with a wide spectrum of tastemakers. Quarion records are unerringly deep and groove-laden, replete with warm pads and jazzy flourishes. He’s happy to see the minimal monopoly in his adopted hometown shifting, as more vintage house sounds infiltrate the clicks and whirs. Here ITM’s Jack Tregoning speaks to Quarion about the beauty of Berlin and rubbing shoulders with his heroes.
Quarion touches down in Australia with Jazzanova and Heiko Laux for Beck’s Fusions present The Berlin Sessions this month…
