He’s played everywhere from the mainstage of Serbia’s 190,000 person capacity Exit Festival to the smallest underground clubs in Australia. He’s had his music licensed to compilations from Get Physical, Om, Freerange, Ministry of Sound and V2, and he’s remixed heavyweights like Booka Shade and New Order. He is of course Deepchild, and he’s one of the Australian electronic music scene’s most prized exports.
This month Deepchild (aka Rick Bull) unveils his fifth artist album, Departure, following up 2006’s critically acclaimed Lifetime LP once again with Sydney’s Future Classic imprint. Although it’s been two years since his last full length release it’s been a period of constant activity for Bull, having spent six months based in Edinburgh as a prime location for him to play regular shows across Europe. He’s also found himself in demand on the remix front, completing more than 10 in the past year alone, including one for 90s trance icon Paul Oakenfold.
About to embark on his Departure launch tour across Australia, presented by Beck’s, ITM’s Tim Hardaker spoke with Deepchild recently about his new album and self-appointed status as a ‘remix whore’.
