Session 70 feat. Miami Horror

inthemix Podcast

This fortnight we’re putting the spotlight on one of Australia’s fastest rising production talents, 22 year old Melbourne electro-funker Miami Horror, who has his hotly anticipated debut EP ‘Bravado’ out this month. Of course that’s not the only drawcard for you to keep an ear out for, as we’ve also got a hot new track from mash-up king Girl Talk, as well as a taste of the new live EP from Trentemoller. Not to be outdone, we also feature Lost Valentinos, Mr Scruff, Calvertron and Catz N Dogz. I don’t know how we’re gonna fit it all in!

Feature artist

Miami Horror – Don’t Be On With Her
Although only 22 years of age, Melbourne electro funk producer Miami Horror is continuing to cause quite a stir, with his productions and remixes getting a lot of heat both locally and abroad. Putting the beats together for Gameboy/Gamegirl’s EP earlier this year, he’s now signed his own label deal and is finally releasing his debut EP this month, ‘Bravado’. We caught up with him while he was busy preparing his new live show, which he’ll take on the road to launch the EP over the coming weeks, as well as around the country for the Good Vibrations Festival in 2009.

Also on this podcast…

Trentemoller – Into The Trees (Live)
Trentemoller’s 2007 album ‘Last Resort’ was undoubtedly one of the year’s best, and it saw him touring his live show all around the world, including to Australia. While he settles down to start work on a new album, he’s released a rather tasty live EP, which features some unreleased tracks and live recordings from the 2007 Roskilde Festival. Here we’ve got the absolutely epic live version of ‘Into The Trees’ – it’s got us damn excited for his tour this summer!

Girl Talk – Like This
Now up to his fourth album, US mash-up master Girl Talk is preparing to head back to Australia in early 2009 as one of the headline acts on the Laneway Festival. His latest LP is called ‘Feed The Animals’, and in 50 minutes he manages to cram in more than 300 samples. It features snippets of everything from pop and rap through to 70s rock and, errr, even Paris Hilton. Seeing Girl Talk pull it all off live is worth the price of admission alone – so check it out if you’re up for a party!

Lost Valentinos – The Bismarck (Knife Machine Remix)
Sydney indie kids the Lost Valentinos seem to be taken forever with their eagerly anticipated debut album, but finally it seems we’ve got the first taste of what’s to come with the single ‘The Bismarck’ now due for release on Bang Gang 12 Inches. It comes with a stack of remixes that’ll see it caned in clubs, including this one – done by the band themselves under their electro guise the Knife Machine.

Calvertron – Opium
Have you heard of fidget house duo Twocker? Made up of Will Bailey and Calvertron, they recently toured Australia, and it was their final swan song before splitting to go their separate ways. Emerging with a new solo release, Calvertron is putting it out on an Australian label no less, with Perth crew Destination? unleashing the ‘Miosis EP’ this month.

Catz N Dogz – Yes They Still Play Casio
A new label venture from the Dirty Bird himself – Claude Von Stroke – Mothership is an outlet for music on the deep techno tip. Inspired by legendary posse Underground Resistance, a large percentage of Mothership’s profits go towards funding a music school for kids in Von Stroke’s hometown of Detroit. They’ve just released an album from Polish duo Catz N Dogz, who you may otherwise know as 3 Channels, and it’s called ‘Stars Of Zoo’.

Mr Scruff – Kalimba
Taken from Mr Scruff’s brand new album ‘Ninja Tuna’, this is ‘Kalimba’. If you’re a Mr Scruff fan be sure to check him out this summer, as he’s heading down under to play a bunch of festivals, including Days Like This in Sydney on January 4th.
