Back in February I reviewed the first Momentum night at Uber and was less than impressed. The sound in the venue was shocking, there was a free for all on the Mic and too many drunken party people….but after being told of the random incidents, haters at the last event and that the Airborne crew had sorted things out I found myself once again in the cosy and classy Uber ready for some beats.

I caught the tail end of ALF’s set which was pretty heavy for so early in the night. Rising stars Vice Versa who consist of Raj (DJ) & Ro (MC) were straight into some smooth business with Calibre’s Twister, then into a typical Good Looking Nookie tune. The set was light and funky with smooth mixing and good tune selection. Tunes like the soulful Tomahawk:Until Dawn, Vice Versa’s Still Doing It and Shining through got the small but friendly crowd onto the dancefloor. Next up was new Airbourne recruit Guy, his set was a good blend of Heavy and liquid rolling beats, it was great to hear the Photek remix of How You Make Me Feel with the bass sounding crisp on the vastly improved SoundSystem. Tunes also rinsed were London Elektricity:Billion $ Gravy, Special Forces:The End (Photek Remix) and the last tune Pendulum:The Vault which is not a personal favourite but obviously a big tune for the Australian DnB massive.

Next up was Lucian who started his set on the heavy side and seemed to lose the crowd a little. It was getting late and after some of the funky business we’d heard from the Vice Versa boys and Guy it was a bit of a shock. Lucian brought it back by dropping everyone’s favourite party tune LK and people in the place were dancing and smiling again. Other tunes in his set included Spirit:Transit and Nu Tone Papa:Got a Brand New Guinea

The UBER didn’t close until 3am this time which meant the stamina massive had to stick around for 50/50’s Fire and MC Curio. I was starting to feel pretty jaded by this point but distinctly remember Ready or Not getting a play which got everyone singing the lyrics in a Karaoke style.

This Momentum was a huge improvement on the first and the Airbourne crew can only go from strength to strength. The whole night was professionally organised and even a dodgy sub didn’t dampen the relaxed vibe in the club. All Dj’s featured on Saturday had a wicked and fresh selection of vinyl (and CD’s) and I can’t remember any poor mixes or needle jumps…the next event should rip it up.

The Airbourne guys take over both the Vbar & UBER on Sunday 8th June for an Old Skool Jungle session with Ritual v’s Murder 1, Semper Fi, Dave Edwards, Lucien, Munk, Bo.S & Guy. Unfortunately I won’t be around for this one but any junglist in Sydney would be a fool to miss it…...
