I simply have to start with “What a fantastic night!”. From start to finish, Lipstick Porn Party was a smooth flow of meticulously planned and well thought out entertainment. From the complimentary cocktail tickets upon arrival (adorned with the luscious Candy Lips logo) to the friendly MC for the evening, fun housey tunes, a stage game for the audience to participate in, and finally to the erotic shows scattered throughout the evening, Lipstick Porn Party was nothing short of a wonderfully successful debut for promoter Candy Lips…

Braving the cold, we dodged the eternal construction site that is World Square, manoeuvred ourselves through to the back of V Bar, wove a path through the pokie machines to the entry of UBER … and then there we were at the entrance to Aladdin’s Cave. The friendly door staff ushered us in and OPEN SESAME we entered a unique world unlike any party or event I have ever been to.

We made a beeline to the bar and waiting there gave me a chance to survey the room. Happy, healthy, good looking feminine women of all shapes, sizes and ages were chatting, sipping drinks and warming up to the easy tunes spun by the elfin DJ Meera. Everyone had taken pride in getting ready for the evening and was obviously enjoying the secure and safe environment…without any of the customary hassles generally experienced at one point or another during a normal night out due to sleazy, groping men. Women kept pouring in over the next hour so that by the time of the second erotic show (the first show featured a Penthouse pet!), the first three rows had to sit on the floor to allow everyone behind us to see. We were treated to a tasteful and energetic strip show by a stunning professional dancer who certainly knew how to move. By the end of this and for each subsequent show the crowd was totally involved; clapping, cheering and generally enjoying ourselves. After each performance, DJ Meera had everyone back on her feet in no time and the dancing continued.

At one point I grabbed Janine (the gorgeous woman behind Candy Lips ;P ) and got the low-down on the concept behind the evening. The first of many parties to come (roughly every quarter), she has spent the past 10 months researching exactly what it is that she thinks the city is missing. Lipstick Porn Party is a response to a need, for women to have a fun and secure night out with other women regardless of what sexuality they are and how secure they are in it. Janine has been careful not to pigeon hole the night as being “gay” or otherwise and stresses that “your sexuality does not, and should not define you”. And it certainly seems as though all that hard work has paid off.

The promotional material had stipulated that this was a female only event, for women of all persuasions to have fun in an open environment. I must admit that I was just the slightest bit apprehensive of stumbling into a butch man-hating crowd. However, the reality was quite the contrary. The crowd was decidedly feminie, and friendly, dressed up and looking gorgeous. A girlfriend pointed out that she had never seen so many beautiful women in one place at the one time before. The vibe was open, fun and safe, neither sleazy nor pretentious in the slightest and I think I can accurately say that EVERYONE had an absolute ball, and we can’t wait to get along to the next one.
