Birthday fever had hit hard the evening of Townhouse, with a total of six birthdays and a photographer that could not see through the lens of the camera, the crew were well libated and ready for a PHAT time!!
Our lot had crammed into three taxis, having experienced the mirth and mayhem that only a Townhouse event provides, they knew what to expect and were ready for the games to begin…
With the strains of “Welcome to the house of fun” floating through my overstimulated psyche, I was more than ready for a trip to the Townhouse funhouse! Two rooms, double the excitement, twice the fanfare, but enough of this crap, what you really want to know is – was it any good? WAS it EVER!!!!!!
Arriving a little late after too many birthday toasts – note to self, don’t make toxic cocktails before doing an ITM review – the front room was pumping with some dirty breaks keeping the white trainer brigade well and truly entertained, the back room was going off with some progressive funky house playing most of the night.
Most of the top line-up for the venue seemed to be living in the back room including Kate Monroe, Shamus, Matt Roberts and Jackster.
For my money, Kate Monroe was by far the best of the night in the back room playing some progressive chunky, funky house packing the dance floor for her full on set.
Jackster – a man who never fails to deliver – went off to the ‘beat goes on’ keeping everyone going to the early hours.
The front room was a complete change of scene, moving from uplifting house to deep and dirty breaks the two crowds throughout the night were completely inspired by different music. There wasn’t a whole lot of movement between the two crowds, it seemed once you’d found your musical fix – you stayed put.
Elroy kicked off the breaks theme with a commercial breaks set to get the party started, moving through a top line-up of Jilbert, Djenrate and Suzzie each playing their own different styles of breaks. By far the best set of the evening was the Jackal finishing off the night by playing his usual alternative house and breaks blend with a wicked remix of ‘Satisfaction’ thrown in for good measure.
Craig Obey differed from his usual funky house set, scratching his vinyl for a good portion of the night (perhaps he needs some cream for that!)
If you’re after one hell of a good night, I advise you to get on down to the next Townhouse event. Their future foray to the snow should be the biggest thing to hit the slopes since the yehti sighting in 1923. Having strained every muscle I own dancing my little trainers off at funhouse, I might have to retire. Has someone got a spare cardigan??
