With a clubbing scene that is so used to throwing huge, go as hard as you like events, it always is breath of fresh air to go to these small, friendly and independent nights out.
Dirty and Delirious is always a much anticipated change from usual excellent Clean and Serene hosted at the Burdekin. One night a year dirty and delirious gives the crowd and opportunity to get creative and dress as right or wrong as they like. At the last Dirty and Delirious event the night was absolutely awesome and the crowd, were obviously looking to make it as messy as last year.
A top line up of local DJ’s were set to rev up the crowd, including the inaugural Jackster, Tazman, Mo’Funk (a tops, up and coming new DJ), and special guest Alex Taylor.
Arriving early, milling around in the bar downstairs the ‘Shock and Awe’ theme was being taken very seriously by the delirious crowd, short skirts and revealing dresses were in abundance, unfortunately mostly being worn by the DJs. People in combat gear, way too many wigs and school uniforms also made an appearance.
The crowd I was with were keen to help Jackster make his birthday go off with a bang so we were keen to make a move upstairs.
The small and intimate mini bar was the perfect venue for the excited crowd, a separate cocktail bar to the right of the dance floor helped separate the drinkers leaving the dance floor clear of rubbish. A huge banner displayed at the end of the bar helped summed up the mood night ‘Funky Chunky Sexy House, don’t tell betty’ (Try typing that into your phone at three in the morning!)
Mo’Funk kicked off the night with some great old school house, playing some awesome classics and some funky, soft on the ears hip hop, perfect tunes for the beginning of the night.
The very friendly crowd were well and truly ready to go bananas by the time Jackster played his set. Making a move from his usual attire he had gone all out for his birthday and appeared in a very attractive set of fake eyelashes, a flattering dreadlock wig and some wicked mascara applied flawlessly that made my girlfriend jealous! Playing one of his best wicked funky house sets, Jackster made the crowd go well and truly off.
With the uplifting house being played throughout the joint and with the birthday spirit in abundance, everyone was getting more and more friendly by the second. With Tazman banging out his usual awesome set the crowd were well and truly ready for Alex Taylor.
Teaming up with Tazman, Alex Taylor played one of the best sets I have heard in a long time. Lifting the crowd off the dance floor into a jumping raving frenzy, with a cracking mix of E Samba I was surprised that the floor didn’t cave in.
The rest of the night continued as it started, requiring a good day to get any feeling back in my feet.
All up one of the best nights you can go to for an intimate, almost house party feel, with a friendly crowd and a great line up of DJ’s, I cannot wait for the next one!
