Reason in a Warehouse @ Wattle St, Syd (16/08/03)
Fri 22nd Aug, 2003 Event Reviewsin
After chilling throughout the evening on Saturday we made our way to search for the Wattle St venue hosting the latest in the series of Reason parties. The location is slightly out of the heart of the city hence we got there swiftly, and had no trouble parking fairly close to the old warehouse building the event was being held in. Tonight the set list was an extended one featuring many recognisable names from the Sydney scene including DJ’s Pete Heery, Robbie Lowe, Scott Oliver, Simon Bell and many more (see the set times attached below for details).
As we walked up the roundabout location of the party we walked in through the metal red door. Climbing up a set of stairs and just down the hallway we came into the main room of the party. The room was dark and interesting exuding a heap of character. Throughout the room many people dancing to the sounds of some great tribal prog. The sound setup was loud and clear but not overpowering, allowing the odd spot of conversation. We further explored the venue and found a few comfy spots to sit and chill. The second room was deep in the back corner of the venue just passed the bar sporting very fairly priced beverages.
The music was quality all throughout the night and went down just as well as the $4 beers which were available. Simon Bell cranked out some great prog using the final scratch system to create some great sounds and interesting mixes much like the recent sets Mark Dynamix has been playing around Sydney. Pete Heery also played an amazing set with a tougher tech edge to it, which got the room rockin’. The rooms were decked out quite minimally which suited the feel of the event, and the crowd that had turned out was a friendly and appreciative one adding to the fantastic intimate vibe of the event.
Overall, the night was a great night out with an unmistakably different feel which somehow felt very unique and yet familiar at the same time. The music played throughout the night was quite diverse between the two rooms offering something for everyone but it was all quality. I hope that more nights choose to explore different and interesting venues to offer the punters a memorable experience such as the Reason crew did. Big ups to the Reason crew for putting on such an awesome unique party for a tiny cover of only $10. If you haven’t yet experienced a Reason party make sure to check it next time
