We had been promised the toughest sounds of the underground prepping us up for a massive night out, and we were ready for delivery.

With the cries of dismay at the lack of decent venues, plaguing the ITM forums, it’s good to see one promoter, going out on a limb and finding somewhere new, if only the same could be said about the apathetic punters.

Veda a venue, with its reputation for huge RnB nights, made our crew justifiably nervous about entering the premises. Happily we were met with a change from the usual sounds of 50 cent and the like, that usually permeates. The crew I was with were pleasantly surprised by some nice and chilly house tunes from Mr Boylan to start the night off.

The huge front room left us with a lot of room to wind up whilst the night got started.

In the smaller ‘Underground styled’ back room the Jackal, playing his usual unique set of new skool breaks and 90’s hip hop, starting the night with a bang, playing a great warm up set to get the rather difficult to please crowd up and moving for Bass Kleph and Escher.

Meanwhile in the front room the venue was slowly starting to fill up, John Devecchis playing an upbeat mix of progressive and commercial house tunes, that seemed somewhat drowned out by the barely filled dance floor. What a waste of some fantastic tunes.

For my money the night was made by the breaks room outback. Between Bass Kleph, Escher, The Jackal, Kato and Auxiliary all taking turns on the decks to produce one hell of a Jumbo Mashin breaks set. Pounding out a mix of new and old the dirty breaks kept the crowd well and truly entertained.

Having previously seen the magic of Bob Frisky, it was severely disappointing to see him finish early, as – in a set reminiscent of his recent efforts at Home, he threw in a great mix of commercial house and Ibiza influenced chilled out tracks. Sydney what were you thinking? A world class DJ playing to such a small crowd??? I know summer’s not exactly here yet, but hey clubbers pick your game up and support some potentially awesome events!!

All up a great night with a line up difficult to match in any of the more well known clubs, marred by a venue that – while offering friendly bar staff, decent amenities – and apart from a small hiccup – great sound would suit a massive throng and felt a little neglected by the crowds afraid to try somewhere new.

Those who were there can attest to the fact that you missed a beauty – see you next time!!
