The venue:
77 Oxford Street, Darlingshurst was host to Robotique on the Friday night of the event. Brighton up bar, is fantastic if you are after a really good night without putting a hole in the pocket. Entry was cheap as chips for what you got in return, Drinks were reasonably priced (I think I paid 7 for a corona), and a tidy bar up stairs can cater for everything you’ll need. Upstairs is compact but surprisingly spacey, the DJ’s unit is in the corner and everything is sort of placed around that. 77 Oxford is definitely a small place, with a big heart.
The vibe:
The vibe on this particular night was unreal, as soon as you walked up the stairs and took a look around, all you see was people talking, laughing and getting on. Almost instantaneously you feel apart of a big family. The impression was that everybody knew everybody and it gave it that nice, home party feel.
The crowd was great; everybody was real descent, no chums to put a damper on the night at all. People were just out to have a mad time, meet new people, most importantly HAVE FUN!
As the night went on, people became only friendlier, more relaxed and you could tell that the progressive beats were sinking deep and everyone was enjoying themselves. Lights were at a minimum, although this fitted in nicely with the charisma/vibe of the venue.
The sounds:
The DJ’s had so much to offer, and I was a little disappointed with the back to back line up. I would personally have preferred it if they played on their own for an hour that way in my view the crowd would have been able to get a better taste of each of the DJ’s individual styles and a greater appreciation of the cruisy “feel good” beats.
Only one problem with the sound, although the music itself was a smooth mix between tech/house there was one technical problem. The large speaker in the back corner kept cutting out, which was a real pain. That’s one thing that needs to be fixed before next month’s event. Oh yeh, and a few more speakers splashed around the venue wouldn’t go astray.
The sounds were progressive with a strong beat which keep everyone going for a long time, some great mixes and live commentary sugar coated the night. The sexy sounds came from:
John Glover vs. Synik 9pm-11pm
Oliver G vs. Tim C 11pm-1am
Matt Rowan vs. Scott Oliver 1am-3am
Personal advice:
WATCH OUT FOR ROBOTIQUE V0.2
