Unable to see Miss Kittin and The Hacker in my home state of South Australia, being the electro enthusiast I am and that also a fan of the French vocalist’s sleek and sexy sounds, decided that this was one event I was not going to miss.
Initially upon inspection of the venue Ambar, I was a little hesitant as to whether the venue would suffice in accommodating the crowd, however being the long weekend and the fact that several other events were hosting international acts I could rest assured that the punters in attendance, though varied in appearance were all there for the one main reason only to hear the purr of the Kittin. I was informed also that a specially constructed elevated stage which bordered onto the dance floor was erected especially for the event also.
Local electro dj’s Travis, Dex Luthor and Scout had the crowd throughout the night getting down to the funky and booty shaking electro which already had the crowd on the floor shakin it in anticipation for the main course. As the clock drew nearer to half past midnight everyone was eager in anticipation for when the duo would take to the stage. There were murmurs that the French songstress was not eager to sing however the crowds roars and the sassy French accent over the microphone let us know the show was about to kick off.
Dressed in what appeared to be a nurse’s uniform which had taken a sexy pseudo makeover Kittin sported her trademark “inhale” and “exhale” tattoos on each bicep and eye make up that looked like she may have once been an Egyptian queen. Cigarette in one hand and microphone her only props onstage, while the Hacker went to work. Working and tweaking knobs the technical genius turned out classic tunes such as “Life On MTV”, “Stripper”, “1982” and ” I Want To Be A Dj” “Stock Exchange” . The crowd was packed and the dance floor a sea of thriving bodies.
I almost had to pinch myself to ensure that I wasn’t dreaming and infact that I was fortunate to be in the same room as this woman that I admired and thought was fuckin sensational! There are no other words to describe how damn good this duo is. Waiting and wondering when the controversial track that the duo received much criticism and media attention for would be dropped, I at one stage was unsure that they would drop “Frank Sinatra” though rest assured it was played and it was even better live than the hundreds of times I would of listened to it in the seclusion of my own home.
A track that so many other artists have attempted to revamp and try sell off as their own “Sweet Dreams” had never sounded so sexy and naughty until I heard it performed by Kittin and Hacker, pure filth that actually sent a tingle up my spine and had me moving away to it, not to mention had a sea of unpure thoughts overtaking my mind.
Not being aware that there was an intermission period before Kittin took to the deck’s myself and a few others were disappointed in thinking that it ended there, but were kindly informed that Caroline had taken to the wheels of steel and continued things there. Her transformation taking a change from Kittin the vocalist to Caroline the dj where she was sporting a cropped hair style similar to that of GI Jane. Goodbye Miss Femme, Hello Nasty…
My night however did not end there when Ambar closed and I made use of my trip to Perth and cranked it into the early hours; Perth shenanigan style. I now will be able to rest assured and die a happy woman knowing that I had the pleasure and the opportunity to be part of the crowd and experience Miss Kittin and Hacker first hand in one of the finest most intimate atmosphere’s I am sure to find anywhere in Australia.
