Sunday night was a perfect way to continue the festive long weekend spirit, as the weekly Airbourne crew delivered another night of chilled beats, friendly faces and an atmospheric taste of a different flavour: takin’ us back to da old skool.

Spread across the cosy surrounds of both Vbar and Uber, the guys had packed it out with hip hop, a bit of dub, drum and bass, and of course, jungle. Quickly filling up with a variety of partygoers- and many a precious looking post Harbourlifer- the place was soon abuzz with that delicious energy only found on the Sunday nights of long weekends. It’s a theory that’s been tried and tested on several occasions and this long weekend was no exception- people just seemed to have more energy.

Despite the laid back atmosphere and the somewhat low vibe beats, this didn’t seem to keep people’s dancing feet still. Those who were taking the time to chill out and relax were enjoying the beats out the back and in the front room, too. People kept flooding in as the rain kept flooding the streets outside until the dance floor was well and truly packed.

Ten points to the back to back flavour of ALF and Ritual- whether it was up or down, there was a continuity and a pace that never lagged. Thankfully the MCing talents of Ozi Batla and Ro made up for the lack of talent in the visuals department (Who thought that porn was tasteful, out of interest?), and the contrast of the front and back rooms made for some great variety form the chilled to the upbeat. This definitely has to be one of Vbar/Uber’s credits- the opportunity to combine different sounds within the space of one cosy venue.

As the second installment this year of Airbourne’s Old Skool Jungle parties, one can only hope that they come storming back with a trifector, and that the crowds keep coming back for more. Somehow, I don’t think they’ll have any difficulty pulling this off again.
