After more than three years in the Rave/ Clubbing scene, I was yet to make it Kandy. My heart was pounding with anticipation. Finally my opportunity arrived, a review they want, a review they will get (whilst I get my weekly fix of bangin’ tunes) and where better to find them than at Melbourne’s Hard Kandy.

Arriving at around 12:30 greeted by pleasant smiley staff, and my first ever HK stamp (yay) I was ready to rock. As I walked down the stairs my insides were stirring with excitement, my eyes lit up as they caught site of the Halloween fit out. With two headstones at the front of the stage, plenty of bats and colourful jack-o-lanterns, Kandy’s efforts in décor didn’t go unnoticed.

Ben Kakoshke was first in line; sticking with the theme Ben spun some deep, dark trance with a twist of industrial to warm up to. The crowd was increasing both in size and energy; there was a good feel to the place even though Ben was taking us to the depths of our psyche. As smoke filled the dance-floor I could feel a thumpin’ Halloween night was going to be had by all.

Scott Alert was next to take the stage. Starting where Ben left off, he slowly brought the crowd back up from the grave with some uplifting, seamless sounds accompanied by a good dose of green lasers. As expected this master of the mixer satisfied the rapidly multiplying audience.

After a small chat with Scott and loads of smiles the dynamic Chia took her place behind the decks. Looking extremely relaxed she effortlessly drove the decks producing a fusion of fresh Nu trance with pleasing NRGetic undertones. The crowd was powered by the energy that was coming from the very well equipped sound system of Billboards.

I managed to catch Chia at the bar and asked her what she thought of Kandy’s crowd? She replied, ‘she always loves playing at Kandy’ with loads of enthusiasm. The spunky little blonde was extremely polite yet vibrant, perhaps reflecting her music’s personality.

With all of Kandy’s levels now crawling with rockers, Ajax was ready to take the stand. As per usual he brought out some thumpin’ classics. Hails roared from the crowd as a mad remix of Eurythmics ‘Sweet Dreams’ was spun. With stimulating sounds Ajax’ set was a shining light on this Halloween occasion and was acknowledged by the now extremely pumped audience.

Jeremy K kept things intense starting out with a quirky mix of ‘White man Boogie’ that got me straight back on the dance-floor after having a little rest. The pace unfortunately was now exceeding my energy levels and at 7:00am it was time for this little dazzler to be off. Thanks to all the DJs and everyone who let me take photos of them. Also to the staff for kindly letting me have a copy of the line-up.
