The Ministry Of Sound Mashed CD has been a permanent fixture in the car stereo for some time now and we were eager to see just how mashed the offering from Kink would be, we weren’t disappointed!!
We arrived early and a foolhardy quick chilli and lime martini meant smoke was blowing out my ears and my dancing shoes were ready for action. Things were about to heat up in the main room and off we charged.
I am a huge fan of the main room at the Arthouse. The DJ booth before you like a giant altar and me, ready to sacrifice my shoe soles to the DJ Gods. Shamus warmed the crowd up in anticipation for the main event. The lighting enhanced the glowing mood of the room with pink hues bathing its darkened corners.
Both Ajax and Wok DJ Time McGee certainly did not disappoint fans of a terrific album. Delivering awesome sets that really captured the cut and thrust of the electroclash punk like stylings of Mashed. Whipped into a frenzy the crowd was transformed into a seething mass of energy, singing along, jumping to the beat and secure in the knowledge that all were having a bloody good time. The rest of our crew arrived just in time for the headliners and we knew it was going to be a rather LARGE one!
Next up, Jackster took the stage and while he was giving it his all the heat had started to get to me and I remembered there was another room I’d neglected. Catching the Jackal and DJ Auxilary really mixing it up in the Broke-n-beats room revamped my energy levels and widened my grin.
Now I faced the dilemma of being torn between two rooms, hopping back and forth between the two to enjoy both perennial favourites.
Kink has built an impressive following. The combination of a gorgeous venue, fun, up for it crowd and a continually exciting DJ line up are certainly worth some serious kudos. Now that their summer sessions have gone weekly it’s great to see them keeping up the pace.
For mine, the measure of a good night is how long it takes for the pain in my feet to override the good times I might be having. Considering I’d forgotten I was wearing heels till 5am when I looked at my friends and said “ouch”, I rate this night pretty highly. Oh and Goldfrapp’s Train is still stuck in my head!!
