Ahh, Chrissy Day…that special time of the year…a day to be shared with loved ones, relaxing, a family BBQ, a bit of swim and a chat with your Nan… Or you can choose door number two, get blind drunk at some random event during the day, head down to Circular Quay and join the other pissheads going on Café Mambo…

After fighting my fellow revelers to the bar, it was beautiful to sit back and gaze at the view, admire the sun setting over Sydney, slur Christmas pleasantries at people and listen to some funky rare groove from Danny Bass; with plenty of seating outside it was a shame that the last of the Christmas day sun meant that no where near enough people got to fully appreciate Danny’s awesome taste in tunes.

Meanwhile on top deck, admiring the sunset, my heart sank as a group of pissed up punters began to sing a truly dreadful variety of Christmas songs, not only because they were dreadful, which they were, but because I bought a very good mate of mine aboard who would not be able to resist an opportunity to show off his horrendous and exceptionally loud singing abilities…yes the 6 foot ginger guy, wearing spotty shorts, a cowboy hat and tinted glasses was with me and yes I know, everyone truly appreciated his rendition of Bob Geldof’s Do They Know It’s Christmas…

As the sun set the party atmosphere kicked in and downstairs filled up steadily to the sounds of Tom D’Silva on deck, reminding everyone that they were here to dance. From any position on the boat and feelin’ the vibe, it was clear that this was without doubt a Christmas party…we were not alone, our DJs were on top form. The outstanding local line up was not satisfied with just delivering their normal tunage but also performed a great floor show.

Tom D’Silva was on fire delivering a funky, dancy set and beautifully mixing Solitaire into 11am on Sulphuric. All this before hitting the dance floor with the lovely Clare and in their matchin’ Cowboy hats to get down to Jackster & Bob Frisky playing yet another beauty with everything on board from Crazy Penis to Club Tropicana (a personal favorite of Jackster’s I believe) mixed into Good Vibrations.

But wait there’s more…

I’ve seen Bob Frisky play the big room at Home….mash it up at Kink…..bang out the tracks at Clean & Serene….and even play dressed as a clown…..nothing prepared me for this….Bob can POLE DANCE! Words fail me to describe the floorshow from Bob and Jackster as they got into the Christmas spirit, except to say it was just one example of the fun vibe on the dance floor. Of course, another thank you has to go to one of the organizer’s – Scott “Lets Have IT” Robertson who was cutting the moves on the dance floor and ensuring the crowd stayed pumped.

In charge of the decks, as our local talent provided the floorshow were the boys of Ibiza fame – Jim Breese & James Fierce, using 4 DEX & FX, but primarily the CD they pumped out an eclectic range of tunes which kept catching you out as they mixed up generations of music such as Crystal Waters and Full Intention “Forever” before finishing on massive list of anthems including “Shake It”, “I’ve got Peace”, “At Night” and “Love Story”. Although the atmosphere was fantastic, I was disappointed in the headliners and felt that both music choice and mixing was a little average, especially in comparison to the local DJs playing.

I have to say the smell from the harbour was just wrong and it would have been good to see more people aboard, but to be honest, it didn’t matter. I got to listen to some great tunes, watch exceptionally drunk people enjoy the hell out of the night, drink myself stupid, see the DJs truly enjoy themselves and of course witness Bob Frisky Pole dancing…

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
