Omega Trance Production’s first event of the year was dedicated to a night full of trance, with local DJ’s showcasing the genre in all of its forms from the past to present day. The event was also to feature trance DJ Steve Strangis from Melbourne however sickness and fatigue got the better of him and he decided to cancel his appearance just 30 minutes after starting his set. In what would normally be seen as an event disaster- the guest DJ cancelling their appearance at the last minute, our local DJ’s instead stepped up and took over the decks, well and truly satisfying every punter in the house until close.

The sounds of DJ’s Jon Noonan and Jonas were pumping the system upon my arrival just after 10pm. Their set explored the newer sounds of trance featuring songs like The Nickelson Night Project- Screen Saviour (Solid Globe Mix) and Oliver Lieb presents Smoked – Metropolis (Eric Prydz Munich Nrg Mix). Their set provided a fantastic warm-up for the night of trance to follow.

The club slowly began to fill more as DJ’s Choice and Adam Kelly took to the decks. Playing a primarily older based trance set, they dropped huge tunes such as Grace- Not Over Yet and Skydive – Wonderful. Flawless mixing and excellent tune selection made for an awesome old style trance set. Towards the end of their set one of trances true classics Bedrock- Heaven Scent was dropped and the whole room erupted into cheers and dancing. By the end of their set, Choice and Adam Kelly well and truly had the place rocking.

Ondy and Hutcho then took over. They played a cranking one and a half hour set full of old style trance with a strong industrial feel to it. Having just been listening to the more recent style of trance in the previous set it was amazing to hear this much earlier form of the same genre. The only similarities seemed to be the bass line and of course powerful synth riffs which defined each tracks’ melody. Even the people outside in the courtyard were enjoying the killer old skool set.

Next up was Steve Strangis vs. local trance DJ Lanithium. The set consisted of uplifting trance which saw massive tunes like Mark Otten – Mushroom Therapy (Armin Van Buuren Mix) and Oceanlab – Satellite (Above and Beyond Mix) dropped. Strangis and Lanithium were pretty much playing tune for tune taking the set from mildly uplifting to totally epic. Lanithium’s seamless mixing and clever track selection saw him outshine his versus partner and really stand out, making the set so much more enjoyable for those listening.

It was then time for Steve Strangis to take centre stage and play an hour set on his own. However, in possibly the most unprofessional manner I’ve ever witnessed any DJ display; he left abruptly claiming to be both sick and tired. In hindsight this was probably a really good thing however as punters were instead treated to the sounds of Lanithium, Noonan and the Trainwreckah. For an hour and a half this Perth trio kept the place rocking with their awesome tunes and clever mixing. Some amazing tunes were dropped including Rank 1- Airwave (Dutch Force Mix), Veracocha – Carte Blanche and Pulser – My Religion.

Once again a very successful trance event put on by OeP which demonstrated that trance in Perth is both alive and kicking.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
