A sunny and lovely day with a top of 38 degrees was the forecast on Sunday. The day when good times took over Oyster bar on the beach. My crew and I arrived at 5.45 in the afternoon, to an already jammed pack venue. We were treated to some warm jazzy music. The crowd was really friendly and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves as the sun starting setting! Huge waves, sand, beach, red skies and a wicked crowd just made the moment even more special. The Place was set to rock! Just before Norman Jay stepped up on the decks, well known tunes such as R.E.S.P.E.C.T and Rock my world were played as well as some wicked party 2-steppy breaky tunes! Everyone was just enjoying the groove, while waiting patiently for NORMAN JAY.

When Norman Jay stepped up-(and yes he had wicked hat!), he started at a slow rhythm playing old funk, disco like songs around 80 BPM mark. The funky old disco tunes kept on rolling till the sun went down, and wow, that was a sight to behold! The change in music was quick and Norman went straight from 80 BPM to 125 BPM tunes..then the words ….HOW ARE U PERTH?? Everyone went wild packing the whole dance floor. Good times had fully set in!! The next couple of hours were just a blend of house anthems such as “intro”, saxophones, guitar rifts, and back to some funk such as “SEX MACHINE”. The dance floor was jammed packed for the whole 3 hours of his masterminded set. The mixing wasn’t that great, but his track selection was superb which made the music get under your skin and had a way of keeping you on the dance floor all the time! He even threw in the latest hit by Outkast-hey ya which made everyone smile even more!

Next up, was Luke Neville.! Luke played a real pumping set…. A lot of French house sounding music. The most well known track played being the production of French duo cassius-The sound of violence. The dance floor was still jammed packed at 10.30 when Luke handed the booth to Dan Stinton.

Dan Stinton played a real funky set, though more mainstream orientated than what I used to hear from him, I still very much enjoyed it. I have to say his mixing skills were up there with the best I have seen even when the MC was rhyming, he kept on doing all these little tricks which made the crowd interact with the MC and the music!

I left at 11.30 and the place was still rocking. Seriously, there was no better way to spend that Sunday afternoon/evening than being at the oyster bar. The management was great, the bouncers really friendly, the scenery exceptional and finally the great crowd enjoying themselves to the good times inflected by Norman Jay. This, simply put, was the gig of the summer.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
