Giving free health to all in Kings Cross since 1987, it was proper that the unofficial suburb of Kings Cross hosted the Kirketon Road Centre’s fundraiser Black Kat Kabaret at Candy’s Apartment in Bayswater. The high profile DJs, performers, promoters and nightclub all gave free service.

The volunteers created a spectacular entertainment more professional than many commercial promoters.

Sveta’s lit-up cocktail set kicked off at about 9 pm. Although hard, Sveta’s funky, chunky, smooth, soft, Rap, Disco and House had Val The Knife and I dancing, at this hour!

Cabaret and singing stars Craig Rodgers & Hester Hanna can costume, sing, dance and doctor with the best. Classic sexy cabaret with “Mein Herr” originally performed by Liza Minnelli in the musical “Cabaret”, “Mama Is Good To You” from Chicago and the finale, “Life Is A Cabaret”.

Glamourous MC Miranda Fair (!) did the welcoming and thanking of everyone and introducing of Ingrid Van Beek in her own inimitable style, while Steve Sonius waited quietly at the decks.

International VJ based in Sydney, Morph’s visuals were energetic with movies, cartoons, old and new technology.

By night Bad Dog, Steve Sonius, is resident of the hip, admired and free Spinoff. Tonight he mixed house, bentup electro and hip hop in a fun set luring the guests onto the shake-your-booty dancefloor.

The Great Australian Charity Event, the “Live Auction”, was hosted by MC Miranda Fair and it was fortifying to hear over-inflated prices left right and centre.

Costumed in a revealing, slinky, red pvc coat, Gangsta Boi cut a strutting figure across the stage. The dancers in black and white combined with Boi in a choreographed dance drama of action, funk and sex, pumping rhythms and beats. The finale was virtual and simulated masturbation, cheered and whistled on by the guests of the charity ball.

The performances over, Kate Monroe, famous for the Mardi Gras and Sleazeball parties, leaned seductively over the decks. Kate played a diverse, soft, booty-trembling mélange of Electro, RnB, Vocal House, Tribal House and Techno. In the midst of aural spunk, the dance floor filled with wild, group-some dancing of mixed genders, fetish and raunch.

Val The Knife and I wandered into the quieter, back bar where Tarot and Angel were being read to curious guests near the grand piano and overhanging crystal chandelier. The Order of Perpetual Indulgence were rightly lounging on red velvet and lush bohemian, making themselves available for photographs and discussion.

Award-winning Adelaidian DJ Josh last night launched an exhibition of her charismatic music turntablism over the last 20 years for New Mardi Gras festival. This night Josh kicked up a fuss of vinyl electronic magic. Known and loved by the guests for her engaging ways, performances and recordings; moving feet spilt over the large dancefloor.

The last in the a.m. was Doctor Jane who took the guests away on a Techno-spiced mix of funkin’ Breaks and Electro House. Doctor Jane’s dancing medication and music medicine mainlined the late-night crew up until sunrise.

I suspect there were a few guests who went straight home to bed…

As usual, the staff of Candy’s Apartment were helpful and alluring.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
