Seeing Theo Parrish at the Hi-Fi Bar for the first time was an interesting experience to say the least.

First up was DJ J’nett playing some soultry house tunes with a fairly small crowd in attendance the dance floor was extremely quiet.

Theo Parrish came on at 1:00am to a very loud applause, upstairs was closed, and the crowd had swelled to a couple hundred people. The small dance floor was packed with people waiting for the ‘Theo Parrish explosion’ to happen!

He lived up to his reputatuion for experimental deep house, with mixes of funky, soul vocals, over the top of jazz which included trumpets, sax and piano.

I love to dance and was ready too, being Friday night and all….and especially after a killer week at work. Parrish built the pace up to a level where the whole place was rocking! Time and time again.

Unfortunately to my dismay everytime he reached that level he cut the music or killed the beat? Quite often cutting the music completely, I don’t think it was by accident because it seemed to happen on a regular basis. Which was a shame because the vibe of the whole place died with it, although it did give the crowd a moment show Theo their appreciation.

One thing for sure was Parrish – obviously enjoying every moment of his performance, grooving and moving behind the very in your face trees on stage.

Overall very laid back gig, if your looking to shake your thang to some stomping beats Parrish is not for you (actually some people were shaking their thangs all night, so it all really depends on what you get into). For me it was a great night to have some drinks and catch up with friends.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
