DJ Wag is one of the most respected DJ’s in the Hard Dance scene. His famous tune “Cocaine” is played almost everywhere by everyone. Saturday night, Sydney clubbers had the privilege of seeing him in person at Gas nightclub located at 477 Pitt St. in Central with a capacity of 500.
The night warmed up around 12am when clubbers turned up late but in style. After downing some drinks and playing a game of pool upstairs in the chillout room, the people headed downstairs to the dance floor where Nervous was already creating electricity in the atmosphere with tunes of transmission and other popular hard trance labels. The club is well setup with the DJ booth situated on a stage at the front of the room with stairs on either side taking us to the second level which overlooks the dance floor as well as a bar area at the back.
Nervous played a set which got the majority of people moving on the dance floor. His set was uplifting and filled with such an energy it visibly lifted the mood of the punters and as time went on more people began to movero the beat.
At 1am the much anticipated DJ Wag arrived on stage, and the dance floor erupted with cheers. He didn’t waste any time and pulled up many famous tracks. The lights simultaneously matched the beats he played creating a great visial as well as aural experience. With the lighting rig lowering down closer to the dance floor and the four pro lasers displaying a spectacular show supported by fog blowing across the air by fans, a mystifying atmosphere was definitiely created.
DJ Wag aka Yakooza was most impressive, playing a set which was mind blowing; the best I’ve seen him play to date. His ‘cocaine’ was distributed through the club’s speakers and sent a thrilling vibe across the dancefloor. With his unique style and crowd moving tunes such as Prodigy mixed with his own tracks the crowd was visibly impressed. The night progressed on with further excitement as more and more people arrived. Tonight was a big turnout for Progress with the upstairs chillout room, the downstairs overlook and the main dance floor filled. DJ Wag attracted even the local dance DJs such as Tom-E (fantasia), Phase One (codered), Haze (fantasia), Matrix (utopia) who can to watch Wag’s two hour set.
By the end of his set the fans couldn’t get enough of him, the two hours seemed like a minute across the night and his fan, who were disappointed to see his set end, applauded him off the stage. Next up was Yoshi who has recently returned from his tour in London. As usual, he ripped up the decks and kept the crowd entertained.
The night in my eyes was a huge success, all the buildup towards the event did meet its hype. DJ Wag was without a doubt the highlight of the night, his set combined with the whole setup of the club contributed towards a great night out.
9 out of 10.
