On Sunday the 11th of April, Perth played host to a gala Drum & Bass and breaks event at Ambar. With some of our finest local talent in support of our international guest(s) Aquasky vs. Masterblaster (pronounced AQUA SKY), the atmosphere was nothing short of spectacular. The dance floor was packed well before our esteemed visitors took to the stage with Skelly having the honours of kicking off on the wheels of steel followed closely by the driving basslines of Diamond D until around 1am. Such a fantastic job that these two did of filling the floor, it was up to the punters to somehow find extra room for the fashionably late groovers.
At around 1am 2 of the 3 members of Aquasky vs. Masterblaster (Dave and Keiron) reigned sensory overload on the ears of a sold out Ambar with a solid 2 hours of the finest breaks I have heard since Breakfest. The pinnacle moment was without a doubt when a well-crafted whitelabel of The Prodigy’s ‘Out of Space’ was dropped like a bomb to a VERY appreciative crowd. Their set was impeccable with a fantastic mix of steroidal beats seriously laced with funk.
DJ Wish was the last cab off the ranks for the morning’s festivities and he didn’t disappoint despite having a hard act to follow. My only regret of his set was that it finished too early and I know he would have loved to have played longer than an hour. It was a night of fun people, great music, and a perfect party vibe. No shoe staring, just lots of foot stomping, and hip swinging. Sympathies to those who didn’t buy tickets. My many thanks to Ang and the rest of the friendly Ambar crew for putting on a great Easter Sunday and my personal thanks and love to the special people that kept me in such fine company.
