Self-confessed ‘people-mover’ Diz had a lot of expectation to live it up to when he played at Club 77 on William St on July 23, especially with the late announcement that fellow IGLOO label partner and member of The Greenskeepers James Curd was to join him on the decks for back-to-back sets. A token photograph of the crowd kicked the night off for Diz, who showed Sydney with his big white smile Sydney that he was just as happy to see the healthy turnout as the crowd was to see the man who has for so long helped shaped Chicago house. What most people wanted was gritty Chicago House, so when the night actually started with a bit more of a commercial sound it was a little bit of a shock but as Diz and Curd came on, playing five to six tracks each for their small sets, the sound took a turn for the better. Diz carried on the sound from the support starting with some softer vocal house while Kurd jacked-up the tempo with some moving Chicago sounds. The set was almost cross-faded throughout the evening, with both switching styles but upping the beat and vibe despite a bit of a wayward period in the center. The music took on more of a swing as Curd turned to your more house while Diz brought on the excellent gritty minimal Chicago sounds we all expected. All-in-all Diz and Curd provided a night which would have seen additional holes worn into many a pair of socks, including Curd’s. The Greenkeepers man flailed his arms and moved his hips just as much as any of the punters.
