I always tend to really look forward to nights out at Bass Station, and if I’m doing the review, particularly when there’s an international on. They’re always such easy targets and, as a cynical writer on a good day, provide me with amazing material that only a bad DJ from another country could do.

So imagine my pure delight when I heard that Brooklyn Bounce (“Club Bizarre”, “Loud & Proud” etc etc) and DJ Dean were bringing their Wild FM dazzling record boxes down to the Palace… Imagine how much larger the delight became when I discovered that no; they weren’t performing at Twister, but at Bass Station.

So, after putting them away for – what I thought – was going to be forever, I whipped out my horrid colourful Khandi beads, found my old pair of Reflective Wanky Wear Phat Pants, and chucked on an old Bass hoodie, I was ready to bounce, pardon the pun. Or, go to the circus, I wasn’t quite sure.

Strangely, the main arena of the Palace wasn’t opened up (possibly due to a completely different event running there for the first part of the evening), and left the room that’s usually used of a normal locals night Friday at Bass rather packed, sweaty and promoted incorrect use of Deodorant.

I swiftly removed myself from the main room after catching a bit of Master Kaos, to have a boogie and such to the Scratch-man’s sidekick, LCK. A wonderful array of Trance, Hard Dance and Hard Trance filled up the side room with a comfortable number of punters. Mixing wise this boys skill is excellent (improved a whole heap since the last time I caught him) – and, everything was going so well… until he played one of the new Cosmic Gate songs. No. Naughty. NO.

Gazmatron followed suit in the side room and opened with a crowd- pleaser, that being his own very first production. Following on the same circuit as Walt & Feliz’ German stormer “Expansion” (one of the best Hard Trance releases all year), look out for this one in the near future… highly infectious and set the floor on fire.

I couldn’t help but expect the ultimate worst for Brooklyn Bounce’s set. Either way, to be completely honest with you, I was only there for one reason: “Club Bizarre”. As disgusted and revolted I am at most “hard” branded styles of dance music of late, whether it be due to their cheesiness or just plain horrid headache springing action, it’s songs full of absolute Cheddar like “Club Bizarre”, or anything Brooklyn Bounce

have done, that make you appreciate just how fantastic the Fun styled bullshit of dance music that gets released, really is.

An interesting blend of Hardstyle, Hard Trance and even as a second track, a sexy pounding percussion fused jungle-prog number (heaven on the ears I must say), the track selection gave everyone a bit of what they wanted and then some. As for their mixing… Luckily for me I expected them to be bad.

The hundreds upon hundreds of people who started to squeal with delight when they finally dropped “Club Bizarre” was amazing. And then it was like World War III on the dance floor… it was every talcum powder spot for itself and I almost went flying across the Palace a good six or seven times thanks to some idiot that thought it would be a good idea to ‘try’ and dance on my foot.

Jewelz came up next, and absolutely ripped the club apart. Harder than usual, Jewelz served up a tasty dish of delights that ranged from Hard Trance, to a tiny bit of Hardstyle, to some really tech-inspired grooves that had people up the front shouting her name like they were at a rock concert or something. DJ Misjah & Tim’s “Access” was also whipped out by Jewelz, and the downright excellent “Expansion” was to follow.

DJ Dean was introduced (to my delight as one of the ‘best DJs in the world’.), and started off his set cheesy, as I had expected it. After about an hour, although the crowd was kept pleased and the club was roaring, Jewelz’ set had virtually taken to me like Michael Jackson to a monkey and had it’s ultimate way with me, and unfortunately, I had to get out of the sauna fuelled club and head home.

DJ Dean told us in a song to “Protect Your Ears”. Thank god I missed that song, otherwise, protecting my ears wouldn’t have helped the horror at all.

Congratulations to Bass once again on another smashing night on the town, and for bringing the beauty of Club Bizarre to the Palace, even if it was just off a vinyl!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
