Put simply, the 2 hour trip to Kiama with 2 wrong turns plus the onslaught of an all day meeting on Monday was well worth it to see Mr Kuts crafting it up on decks on a Sunday evening.

Kiama Inn provides the location every week for the local gang, Block Rockin Beats, and this Sunday the Inn had been kind enough to kick the locals out early to make way for the most rocking party Kiama is likely to have seen for a while. For those one of many at the Metro on Saturday night, experiencing Krafty Kuts in small pub in a coastal town in a crowd of few was unbelievable. Ok, so the sound was pretty crappy with too many sound cut outs to pass by, but the crowd was intimate and the music was blaring.

There isn’t much to say about the venue, it’s a small town pub, and the choice of beverages was small, “what no Red Bull…what about cranberry….ohh….umm….a rum and Coke?” But the dynamic crowd of Kiama kicked up their heels in stellar style to pay homage to ‘The Man.’

Local man to watch, Ben Henderson, was kicking into a remix of Blackstreets ‘No Diggity’ when we arrived with Pete Dally not far behind him. The night picked up when Tanzi MC hit the stage, with her energy and enthusiasm for the music infectiously pumping up the Kiama locals as she served as an interface between the tunes and the crowd. She pulled out all the stops though when Krafty Kuts stepped up to the deck, hyping the crowd into a frenzy and verbally dragging punters onto the floor.

Krafty Kut’s intro was the same as Sydney with his trade mark ‘KRAFTY KUTS PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR’, pulsing the crowd into a feast of excitement. And a feast it was, AC/DC ‘Thunderstruck’, Drumattic Twins, and the old but faithful ‘Tricka Technology’.

Krafty effortlessly moved the mood between funky up tempo hip hop to driving breaks to drum’n’bass. The evening was impressive, how often does it feel like you’re at a house party with your closet mates and Krafty is your DJ? No more so then when Krafty grabbed the mike thanking everyone for making his last night in Australia his best, followed by a song that is always sure to bring people together ‘Is this Love’ by Bob Marley.

Next time Mr Kuts hits ours shores be sure to make the trip out of Sydney to the more secluded and more intimate locations. It is sure worth the trip and the tiredness the next day at work to have an experience as close as you can get to having Krafty Kuts in your own living room. .....

“We’ll share the same room, yeah! – for Jah provide the bread. Is this love – is this love – is this love – Is this love Mr Kuts I’m feelin’?”
