Time sure does fly when you’re having fun, I can truly say I’ve been lucky with the reviews that I’ve picked to do and that I’ve actually had a mad time with every single one of them. Well two months down the track from my first one here I am hoping that my luck will keep going. I can clearly remember the atmosphere and the vibe and was hoping for a déjà vu two months down the track. Here we are again, Hed Kandi is back to Home Nightclub this time with the head of Kandi, Mark Doyle, headlining the proceedings together with Andy Norman (back from his spectacular set the last time), and with Sydney’s very own Hed Kandi DJ, Jack McCord. And, with a very impressive Terrace line up of Jackster, Yogi and Illya, I am once again faced with the dilemma of having to try and split myself up between both rooms. Early on the place is looking electric, the atmosphere is absolutely amazing and the eye kandi cannot be ignored. Home nightclub as always is dressed for the occasion, the main room early on looking perfectly healthy with just enough space to move around, always a good sign considering the night is still very young. With the funky grooves flowing early on, and the crowd absolutely humming, I decided that it was my chance to quickly check up on one of my favourite parts of the club, the Terrace. Getting there Yogi was playing the early set and the crowd was just perfect. I always find it hard leaving the Terrace but since I’m on a mission tonight I’m going to have to get back down to the main floor. The main room is slowly building up with Homegrown very much in control of the decks, it’s always hard to start a night off but he seems to be loving every minute of it with the crowd firmly on his side, he did a great job in setting the crowd up, all of a sudden every bit of space in the dancefloor is slowly getting occupied. It’s now Sydney’s own Hed Kandi, Jack McCord’s turn to keep this party going, recently returning from his band Soul System’s tour of China and also finishing the bands new amazing single ‘Feels So Good’ featuring the Jungle Brothers. It sure was nice to see Jack back on the decks of Home’s main room, with the party atmosphere very much in the air all night. Jack’s set was very smooth, accompanied by some very groovy, funky and sexy tunes which kept the crowd dancing all throughout. Tracks like ‘A Higher Place’, ‘Where We Can Boogie’ and ‘Feels So Good’ kept everyone on their feet with crowd favourites like ‘Push Up’ and ‘E-Samba’ worth a mention. Straight after Jack, Andy Norman played a couple of tracks before Mark Doyle took over. With a lifestyle and a job all of us can only dream of, Hed of Kandi Mark Doyle stepped up to the plate and showed us that no matter what you do in your day to day life, when it comes to partying and having a great time all we really need is a great place and good music. The Hed Kandi boys sure does know how to have fun and the crowd was well and truly right behind them, Mark with his very easy going and casual approach played the crowd very well, tracks from Hed Kandi artist’s Stonebridge like ‘Put Em High’ and ‘Sing’ kept the bodies shaking with Praise Cats ‘Shined on Me’ getting the nod for probably the track to remember all throughout the night. When I said 2 months ago that Andy Norman will definitely be back to our shores, never did I expect it to be this soon. Not that I’m complaining but it sure is great to see him again and looking back to the set he played here the last time, I think he played an equally impressive set, with mostly my favourite tracks getting played all throughout. To name a few of the more memorable tracks, ‘Stupidisco’, ‘Calabria’, ‘Da Hype’, ‘Make the World go Around’, ‘Just a Little More Love’, ‘24 Hours’ by Agent Sumo and a bootleg of Call on Me with Black Box’s Everybody Everybody put a whole new spin to the track. By now the boys decided it was time to turn it all up and join forces to play back to back to back, and this sure was the highlight of the night. For the last hour and a bit we all got taken on a journey through classic house music. Jack, Mark and Andy totally blew everyone away and from the way they were doing it, it sure does feel like we are all in one big house party. Classics like ‘Big Love, ‘Star Guitar’, ‘Needin U’ and ‘Insomnia’ all got thrown into the barrel, accompanied by today’s anthems like ‘David’, ‘Seven Nation Army’, Deep Dish’s Flashdance and one of my favourites, Dancin by Morillo Romero and Nunez, this sure was a hell of a way to end the night. The night must come to an end like all good things and another quality night was once again delivered to us by the Together at Home crew, the vibe all throughout the night had this festival kinda feel to it, with the lovely Hed Kandi girls putting on a show on every corner of the dance floor, lighting is definitely worth a mention as I thought it was just right the whole night, not too dark with a very vibrant feel to it, and lasers perfectly executed.
