A Night of Trance meets Surge, as soon as I’d heard about this amalgamation I was excited and it had a lot to live up to. Being a huge Surge fan from when it was on at Eden I was happy that it was back (after a bit of a false start @ 113 William) and knew that the guys from ANOT would make it even better. If you wanted to hear uplifting trance then Enchantment was the place to be.

Hyde Park Bar was a great venue; it’s perfectly sized with plenty of room to dance around, and with the chill out lounge area being far enough away you can actually hear you and your friends’ incessant ramblings. It was also good to see that the mirrors were covered up by some wacky posters which begs the question though, who really wants to see themselves in the mirror when they dance?

The lineup was definitely a surprise, three up and comers set the task to get everyone in the mood and make the progression from Breaks into Trance. Stickso kicked the night off well playing Breaks and being on debut he didn’t miss a beat.

The Mike B to DJ Mij choice irked me a little. I felt that Mike would have been better suited playing first, then Stickso then Mij. Although starting off slowly, Mike B played a solid house set, really kickin it in at the end. Mij also started off slowly but when he finally tranced it up he rocked, playing exactly what we came to Enchantment to hear: Uplifting Trance. The vibe picked up a notch as well as suddenly more people packed onto the dance floor.

Enter Paul Doran. Donning an Above the Sky t-shirt that’s where he took us. Paul whipped the crowd into a hand in the air waving frenzy. Josh Van Aalst kept the intensity going as well but was unfortunately stopped half way through due to the smoke machine causing the fire alarm to trip.

After 5 minutes outside and with everyone wanting to keep going Josh kicked back into it with Airscape – Sosei and we were all dancing again. I honestly wasn’t into Rob Noble’s set unfortunately, it just felt a little hard for my liking, yes he was booked as harder edged uplifting trance, but it just felt harder edge to me. He did drop Solar Stone – Seven Cities at the end though so all was forgiven.

With the stayers still out on the dance floor Mickey D kicked ass. On the Move, Silence, Carte Blanche, nuff said. Too bad yet another fire alarm cut his set short as it was the perfect ending to an already awesome night.

Dirt Devil’s – The Drill would have been the ideal theme for the night as not even two fire drills could stop the fantastic time everyone was having. Whether or not surge will be back next month, who knows but I can’t wait for the next round of Enchantment!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
