Friday for me started with a small hangover and a positive outlook for the long weekend … until… the rain hit – gail force winds and buckets of water had me almost cruising straight home and into bed… But alas, never having seen the man Jono Fernandez in action I couldn’t resist heading down to the recently “converted” Phoenix Bar for a look see …

Upon my late arrival the club was getting quite pumped with Damn Right on the decks serving up some prog and breaks to ease into the night, and from all reports Tigz and Obsidian warmed up the venue with some tasty tech, breaks and beers… I was surprised at the turn out because of the weather and the rest of the long weekend’s activities, but it was a very friendly and up for it crowd

I was quite impressed with the venue and didn’t believe that it used to be a gay club until I saw two blokes using the bass speaker up the front as their “love seat” for a few minutes before realising this wasn’t the place it used to be.

Switch vs McGuyver were up next to warm up for Jono ,and even though I am bias and I see these guys play every week on our radio show we do together – they absolutely thumped it out. It was great to hear some of their new production work I have not been privy to and excellent to see them get a good “middle of the night” slot as opposed to warming up.

Jono Fernandez cued up around the 2am mark and by this time I was rightly drunk and ready to shake some ass – he opened with an accapella from Prince that didn’t quite fit (Thunder) but it set the mood for the rest of the night – crisp fat sounds – I think everyone that was there thoroughly enjoyed themselves and I for one will be heading back to see him next month.

Only one complaint and that is that I expected to hear loads more new stuff from him but I guess he was playing to the crowd not to one train spotting chin-stroker who was to drunk for his own good. Thanks Movement, great vibe, great tunes, great venue.
