I have always been intrigued about gas, though my clubbing experience had not led me there before. My first impressions were good, it’s polished but not pretentious and the bohem lounge was a great precursor to the main event downstairs at gas.
Things took a while to get going – no doubt Park Life held a few people up – but DJs Chia and Nervous worked hard to get people on the floor. By the end of Nervous’ set the floor was packed with a diverse but young crowd. It’s amazing, I haven’t heard trancy hard house in years, and it’s just awesome that there is still an audience for it.
The venue is flawless, and everyone is up for a great night out and some high-energy blood pumping beats. The line up was definitely a draw card – Nervous, Chia, Yoshi, Vixen and Archie, from start to finish it was upbeat hard core with no holding back. The jocks feeding off the crowd, the energy was contagious.
Just quietly, I was itching for Archie’s set, and I wasn’t the only one. The party was in aid of the launch of Archie’s website http://www.djarchie.net. It’s a very funky site with interactive scratch facilities, and samples of what Archie has instore for us.
Hailing from Canberra originally, Archie has earned a loyal following that ensures a club night each week at the top clubs in Sydney. Polling in at #9 on the Technics inthemix50 DJ Poll, that Archie is so hot right now. The boy can scratch! But we also love him for his hard trance. The crowd was not to be disappointed.
It wasn’t long before Archie was cooking with gas and the crowd was jumping, literally, it was hard to keep up. Whilst hard house and trance is not what I usually go in for the set was awesome, a high standard had been set and it only got better over the course of the evening.
All in all Progress is a pretty cool night, reminiscent of the mid-nineties pseudo rave scene; it’s found a younger and appreciative audience.
