Electric. Off the Hook. Entertaining. Insane. These are the words that I have heard people described last Saturday nights return to Ambar – which had a couple of weeks of downtime to recharge the batteries since the new years adventures. And what fitting way to get the Ambar Saturday nights back up and pumping with none other than Fingerlick’n stalwart and Perth favourite, Lee Rous , or as one punter put it “One and half of plump DJ’s”.

I arrived at Ambar with Skelly laying down some funky beats to an already packed Ambar Night Club with most patrons congregated over near the bar getting well juiced up for the night ahead. The dance floor was well populated for so early in the night with many getting down to the sexy tunes that Skelly was warming up with. 1am hit and recently voted 3rd best breaks Dj in Perth, Wish stepped up to a packed dance floor and wasted no time starting out with Dj Nitro’s “Technical”. Wish belted out some driving tunes including the womping Dylan Rhymes “Muzika” and Rhymes collaboration with Meat Katie “Magnolia”.

By now the capacity packed Ambar dance floor was alive with energy as Lee Rous made his way to the decks. The crowd erupted in appreciation to Wish as Rous faded out Wishs last tune. A small pause and then he was into it. Recently released white label “Spitroast” was a perfect opening tune which just builds and builds. Rous pretended he was playing a bass guitar as the main bass riff came in before urging the crowd on before the drop. When it came – it didn’t stop for the rest of the night.

The next few tunes were all unreleased “fresh” tunes that had been promised before the tour, and deliver they did. Soon to be released “Get Kinky” got a good reception from the crowd. Rous went through some old favourties as well as new , urging the crowd to get involved in his set, many times turning the  volume right down to have a conversation with someone. Bullet Train, Soul Vibrates, Space Bass, and of course  the plump’s remix of Push Up got the punters smiles on their dials. Last years summer hit “Donner Kebab” – the white label remix of “This is love” again had those boogying in hysterics , unfortunately as the tune dropped , one of the speakers on the Ambar system decided to cark it , and for the rest of the night affected the quality of sound.

Just as Lee Rous was about to end his set, he turned the volume down and asked for everyones attention and silence. With that he yelled out “You are all wicked , Ambar is like a second home to me” and everyone reacted accordingly.

Perths number one breaks Dj , Micah had a hard act to follow. But this didn’t stop people clearing once Rous had finished. Micah started with Splitloops “Hyper Hyper” and rinsed out Christian J’s remix of “4 the  white night”.

What a night. Again Ambar delivered a quality night of international breaks. Lee Rous had it all, crowd interaction, fresh tunes, old tunes, and a thankyou at the end – the thanks aint for us Lee, we thank you for putting on such a good show.
