It was that time of the month again for uplifting trance fans who flocked to Arq nightclub for the final A Night Of Trance at the venue before it moves on to try out the ample space and booming system of Space. The night will feature a number of our best local talents including Liquid M (Live), Diggs and Morro, Yoshi, Stama vs Rob Noble and many more. Apart from being the final event in the series at this venue it was also the final set of playing together for Diggs n Morro. After over 2 years together the dynamic duo will finally be parting with Morro taking a well earned break. After a short break due to travelling and other commitments Liquid M also played a 1 hour live set on the night featuring a number of new tracks and remixes.
We arrived rather early on in the night to find a stack of people milling around in the hallways between the two levels with the main room not actually open at the time due to technical difficulties with the sound. It was great to see so many familiar faces about and to catch up with so many people early on in the night. Downstairs Muli had already begun his set playing a nice mixture of progressive trance and more uplifting tunes such as Salt Lake – Sunset Highway which is an excellent new atmospheric tune. Directly after this Karvan & Condivi began their live set to the packed downstairs room where many were waiting for the main room to open. These guys rocked it up as usual and kept the crowd dancing for the entire hour finishing with their new track Karvan & Condivi feat. Nicole Hold – Escape From You which made it onto the Trance Australia Vol 1 CD recently, congratulations guys.
After running about and 1:15 late the main room opened much to the delight of those waiting to get in and sets were all pushed back and shortened slightly to accommodate all listed DJs. Scott Richardson kicked off the upstairs room playing some fairly banging tunes to the fired up crowd however the set seemed to be very similar throughout and didn’t really captivate me too much. Downstairs Marishka started off a banging hard trance set, starting off with Kai Tracid – Too Many times and continuing on to lay down some tasty harder beats.
Next up were Diggs and Morro who came on to a loud cheer from the eager crowd. After having promised to deliver some of the biggest tunes they have played over the last few years they did exactly that. The set was full of huge melodic and uplifting tracks such as the classic James Holden – Nothing, the plucked guitar goodness of Whirlpool – Under the Sun, Solarstone – Solarcoaster, DJ Tiesto – Suburban Train and many more. It was a good mixture of new tunes as well as tracks that trance fans would all recognise which created an excellent atmosphere on the dance floor with smiles all round.
The duo finished off with some huge tracks to complete the set including the classic sounds of Binary Finary – 1999 (Gouryella Mix), Ferry Corsten – Rock Your Body and G & M Project – Sunday Afternoon (Morph Remix). As the boys handed proceedings over to Liquid M they enjoyed the great reaction from the crowd after a storming set. Liquid M were up next and after cheekily setting up their equipment during D&M’s set due to the technical problems earlier in the night got under way without a hitch belting out some of their classic tunes as well as a handful of new ones to the fired up crowd including SOA and Schizophrenia (Join Us Now) which also both made it onto the Trance Australia CD compilation. Unfortunately by this time it was getting quite late in the night due to the delay so some punters were heading off including our crew however I am sure the remaining sets kept those staying on entertaining into the wee hours of the morning.
Overall, despite the long wait at the start of the night before the action started upstairs it was a very enjoyable night. The crowd was absolutely chock full of ITMers and many of the trance crew that used to frequent both the Altitude and Halcyon nights which made it a nice reunion of sorts. Diggs and Morro rocked the main room with a string of massive tunes whilst some great live sets were on offer from Sydney favourites Liquid M in the main room and Karvan and Condivi in the downstairs room. If this event sounds like something you would enjoy then make sure to check out the next one in the series which I believe will be held at Space in the near future for a similar cover charge of $20.
