Sweetchilli has come a long way since its inception. From holding parties for the love of music with local djs, to playing host to the big gun international djs, the crew at Sweetchilli has proven that they have the ingredients that are needed to run a successful party. This was once again what they did on the night of 19th February 2005, when they played host and brought to Sydney punters for the very first time Desyn Masiello. A shining and ever rising star on the global dj circuit.
I entered Suzie Q’s, the venue chosen for the night, at 11:50pm. Ben Korbel was lashing out with some stomping progressive tunes. There weren’t too many people dancing, but people would take to the floor now and then and it was obvious by their smiles and consistent bopping that the tunes were being thoroughly enjoyed. A stand out track for me was ‘Hysterix’ by Sasha. I was sure I saw Paco and Fredrick ‘Western Approach’ there but do not remember hearing it. At 12:50am the floor started getting more packed and at about 1:25am Ben Korbel gracefully stepped off from the decks after mixing in ‘How can I love you more’ by M People, to let the star of the night Desyn Masiello strut his stuff.
Desyn seemed to be a very sociable person and very approachable. Smiling, laughing and joking with people, he put across a very positive energy, which in my opinion lit up the atmosphere even more. As with most tracks during his set I wasn’t sure of the name, but the first track he played was ’T.P.W.A’ out on Symphonic Records and that was kindly written on a piece of paper for me by the man himself. As I said, very approachable.
Desyns set continued to be quite a mixture of progressive, house and tech-house. The second track was blaring “ecstasy, ecstasy…” which was setting the mood for the crowd, which was already ecstatic. The third track was very housey and I remember, “control yourself” being sung in it, but judging by the state of the crowd ‘control’ was a word already forgotten by the punters. Desyns set also included a remix of ‘Ride’ by Aussie homegrown Luke Chable and Bionicci.
