Easter Kink @ Arthouse, Sydney (26/03/05)

Created On March 31st, 2005 by aussiegal242

Here it is, the long Easter weekend! For me another venue I had yet to experience. As I walked up from Town Hall station I could hear the music oozing out of Arthouse. The excitement rushed over me as I neared the club, “Scotty” the promoter of Kink wearing the biggest grin I had ever seen greeted me on the door. After I had been given a wristband, I entered the main room and immediately became enveloped in the architectural design of the place.

After scanning the room I noticed the smooth wood flooring, high ceiling, lounge seating, moderate lighting and sound system, and one thought came to mind – “It works”. The Arthouse has two rooms with decks, two rooms with just seating and a pokies area. All rooms are on the same level. In the main room I moved toward the DJ booth and behind the DJ, to my excitement I saw a large screen displaying various images. It made a refreshing change because not only are you musically stimulated but also visually, which enhances your clubbing experience. I made way into the breaks room in time to hear Frenzie on the decks. It was too early in the night for anyone to be on the dance floor, but his tunes helped set the mood.

After a good look around, I finally settled in the main room where Brendon Fing and Spin-X were ripping it up on the decks. I can safely say that before tonight I wasn’t the biggest fan of house music, in fact I didn’t like it at all, that was until I was completely mesmerized by the tunes that filled my ears. I can now say that house has taken on a whole new meaning for me. I had a chance to speak to a regular named Chris and I asked him what he thought of Spin-X. “He’s and animal! I’m a huge fan and I only come here to hear him play”.

Later on in the night in the main room, I had a chance to hear the closing stages of Declan vs. Ben Korbel. Then Ben Morris vs Trix came on the decks, and these DJs really knew how to please the crowd. I was there in the thick of it, and when tunes like Midas Touch and Nasty Girl were belted out the crowd went wild – not a dry seat in the house!

All the DJs featured played pleasing sets. I spoke to many of the clientele and did not hear any complaints. The atmosphere was one of the best I had encountered in a long time; all the rooms were easily accessible and had plenty of good seating which can be a rare thing to find. The bar and door staff looked like they belonged there and were enjoying themselves, they were all surprisingly friendly.
