The night was the official closing party for the acclaimed, and the only purely trance show on Nova 96.9, Rush. In the four years that it has been on air, it has broadcast live from Ibiza 3 years running, hosted over 50 live outside broadcast events in Sydney, supported new and existing local DJ and national talent, uncovered new Australian DJs and producers via its listener mix segment, released 2 double CDs, built a regular online following and has been involved in many Australian events and tours by the worlds top DJs.
The night was held at Progress @ Gas, was headlined by UK RUSH resident DJ and winner of the best new producer award in the recent UK based global dance awards, Adam White, and featured some of Sydney uplifting trance scene’s finest DJ’s – Nervous, Jumping Jack, Cameron O’Shea and Scott Richardson, as well as hard dance virtuoso’s and Progress regulars Yoshi and Chia.
The upstairs club, Bohem, was joined with Gas for the night to deliver a purple-tinged mood-lit chillout space, with comfy couches aplenty and deep chilled beats as the soundtrack. I’ve been to the place many a time but I have never seen so much effort put in to the atmosphere of the place – and it was perfect for what it claiming to be.
Downstairs housed the trance party – Scott Richardson delivering a quality uplifting tunes to a contingent of dedicated clubbers not scared off by opening-set earliness. What started off with Solid Globe – Found, built up via Tiesto’s rework of Skin – Faithfulness toward the more driving, hands-in-the-air style of Sydney trance scene veteran Nervous. By the time Nervous took centrestage, the club started to fill up and dancefloor was coming even more alive to a set which included the more recent reworks of ‘I feel wonderful’ and ‘Adagio’.
Cameron O’Shea delivered what by most has been described the set of the night. What it may have lost in driving energy force from the hour before, it gained in pure uplifting melodic bliss which set out to prepare the club for the main act of the occasion. The set grand finale was the work of our very own Sydney based producer, [p.e.g] – Chiba – track that won TranceTribe Production competition earlier this year, which was fantastically recieved by the packed dancefloor.
Then was Adam White. Famed for his productions Whiteroom, Someday and Ballerina, I like many others expected his set to flow on in melodic, softer beats style of Cameron’s set beforehand. However, although all of the above got a spot in his track selection, the overall feel was more driving than expected, which didn’t seem to sit well with many of his fans (although I loved it, this was my definite personal favourite set of the night). Other gems included were ATN – Miss A Day, Radiohead – Street Spirit (Tiesto Remix) and Parker & Clind – Generator, where most of the classics where saved toward the end of the set. Adam also showed that he knows how to play for, and energize the crowd – he looked completely comfortable – in fact, was obviously having a fantastic time behind the decks, which is always good to see in a DJ.
Yoshi followed on from here to play the driving, energised uplifting hard brand of trance that he is known for, leading to Chia closing the night off with more harder beats that always please the Progress regulars.
Where to now for Rush? Even if the “break” that it is taking from the airwaves turns out to be longer than desired, it will still play host to many a fantastic night to come – so keep your eyes and ears peeled for details revealed in not too distant future.
