The latest installment of the Minimal X-posure nights went down at the Velvet Lounge last Saturday night, delivering to the Perth massive a quality music experience and what turned out to be a fun night for all. The line-up for the evening included a fine range Perth’s own including Mandy B, Kriece, Andrew Utting and Mirko. What ensued was an eclectic range of beats and the line up was well planned which resulted in a consistent and smooth flow in the music program throughout the evening.

First up on the decks was Mandy B who delivered a tidy little set of rocking house beats. The light grooves and funky sounds filtered the system providing quite the nice little early set. As the intimate room began to fill quite considerably for quite an early time of night, Mandy turned the tempo up a few notches and the beats to ensue were just right for that early drinking vibe.

Following on from this groovy little opener was Kriece who delivered an impressively tight set of the tech house variety. Moving through a number of tracks, Kriece’s set was full of flow and a look around the room would suggest that majority of those in attendance were sincerely enjoying this tech and house amalgamation. Kriece dropped a remix of Cirez D – Deep Inside which epitomized the perfect blend of tech meets house that his set seemed to encapsulate. Smooth mixes and clever use of effects highlighted this seasoned DJ’s set.

The live element of the evening was provided by Andrew Utting who performed one of his quality live PA’s. Using a predominantly software based set up, Utting then proceeded to deliver a top notch live set, mainly characterized by the sounds of electro as well as a smattering of twisted techy sounds for good measure. Impressive layers of percussion, twisted synth and broken beats were combined to form a sterling aural experience to say the least.  Included within his set were his quality tracks Cliché and Journey which also appear on the forthcoming Signal 2 Noise compilation CD – Synthetic Beats. Taking the tone of his set from fairly light and relatively minimal all the way to dark and very deep, Utting managed to maintain the perfect measure of flow and constant rhythm throughout. With every performance, Utting’s skills seem to be on the increase and every set seems to somehow outdo the last. His knack for creating original and clever loops and layers will always keep his sets unique and trademark from anything and anyone else out there.

Taking it to close was Mirko who dropped a predominantly techno set, taking it from the more minimal sounds of the genre right up to quite a well paced tempo, without allowing it to get too banging. His notably smooth transitions and clever track selections made for a very fitting closer. Mirko’s set more than represented the techno genre, with such a range of tunes and styles within the genre getting a play. Those still present were enjoying (or regretting, depending on how hard they hit it!) their last drinks as well as the quality tracks Mirko was pumping the system with.

Saturday night saw yet another successful, enjoyable and most importantly, quality Minimal X-posure go down at the Velvet Lounge. The top turn out, awesome line up, plush surrounds and of course the beloved beer on tap led to a most fun and kick ass night out. Nice one guys!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
