Arriving around midnight, it wasn’t at all surprising to see the turn out this night had attracted. In a fairly quiet night in Sydney’s busy nightlife schedule, this surely was the place to be – everyone was there! From the old regulars to the newer patrons, every clubber, party animal, trashbag and music lover was present. The club pretty reached capacity within an hour and a half of opening, and the place was sure as hell pumping. I didn’t get my ass there early enough for Brendan Fing and Spin-X, but having seen them play at other venues around Sydney I’m sure the night started out quite well.

Shamus and Jackster were on deck and the place was in absolute frenzy, everyone who loves their house music was surely spoiled on this night. Two of Sydney’s biggest house DJs, it was quite a treat watching them play together, and the dancefloor was packed. The theme for this night was PARTY, and it was very much the case from the track selection – not only by these two guys but of almost every DJ who stepped up. Playing current anthems and a mixture of classic tracks like Calabria, Rockin Music and Just a Little more Love, it sure brought back memories of the two very successful years the club has had.

Sarah Main, also another success story over the past couple of years, was quite a fitting headliner for tonight. Having begun her music and DJing career here in Australia, it’s nice to see her back on our shores, catching a glimpse of the amazing musical skills that have landed her countless gigs around the world – most notably her residency at Ibiza superclub Pacha. Her track selection was very diverse from Led Zeppelin and Dee-Lite, to Alan Braxe’s Intro and LK’s Runnin. The party atmosphere just kept on flowing and with monster tracks like Strings of Life and Right About Now thrown into the barrel, her two hour set flew by leaving many punters begging for more.

A lot of work was done specifically for this party and it sure did show. The lighting and production was great, with mirror balls brought in and visuals at the front and back. The sound was also better than ever. One downside though, and this is pretty much the case in almost every other Kink night, was obviously how packed it was – for the first two hours this issue seemed to be on everyone’s lips and unfortunately no matter where you went there was no getting around it. Being as successful as they have been in the past two years this issue is probably something that will always linger, but it did get better later on, some people obviously just didn’t have the lasting power to party on any harder with exhaustion slowly creeping in!

Not in my case though, I was there until the end! The time had come for the set I was most looking forward to, with Ben Morris and Ajax jumping on board! Two of my favourite DJs back to back for the first time (well first time I’ve seen them anyway). The set began quite solidly, apologise for not knowing exactly who played who at these back to back sets, as the place was so busy it was kinda hard to concentrate on the little details around the booth. Big ups for playing Bounce’s ‘This is a Father’s Day Release’, a personal favourite at the moment! They also dropped Dire Straits – Money for Nothing and the crowd went nuts, the night was so musically diversed you just don’t know what to expect anymore. Ajax and Ben was absolutely hammering it and the crowd was absolutely loving every minute of it, playing some of summer’s biggest anthems like I See Girls, Chicken Lips vs. Fog, and my track of 2004 – Kinda New. I for one am already looking forward to this weekend when Ajax and his Bang Gang crew pay Kink a visit!

Winding it down to a close, another favourite Craig Obey was now on deck with Tom Da Silva. Just when you thought you could not get any more quality, these two guys come on and once again the need for a breather was put on hold. Always been a big fan of Craig and it was great to see him back to back with Tom Da Silva. With a night as big and as long as this, it’s hard to play the closing set as it’s always a hell of a challenge to keep everyone moving right till the very end,  Craig and Tom didn’t seem to mind it and continued what the others has started – finishing the night off with monster tracks like The Grill and Craig’s Coolin at the Bar. The last two sets had the whole electro vibe going on, and considering this is the big thing right now no one seemed to mind!

Overall there were solid contributions by all the DJs involved, the night – despite being too packed early on – definitely was a success. Two years have passed by, and in Sydney’s fickle market this sure is quite an achievement for Kink – so congratulations to the whole crew! A hell of a night, and I for one am already looking forward to next year’s third birthday. Will they get there? Without a doubt.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
