Well we have come to expect big-time partys from Seven Nightclub and BlockParty3 didn’t dissapoint.

It must have been the cold Melbourne weather that kept numbers low, but those inside the club were certainly kept nice and toasty with the lineup on the night.

Not having been to Seven before I was expecting just another dinghy hole in the wall, well it met my expectations and supersized them. The venue is a modern clubbers dream, state of the art sound system, sexy venue, great drink prices, friendly staff with beautiful attitudes (Big Thanks to Adrian, MJ, Stuart & All the Staff) & possibly the coolest loo’s in Melbourne.

I arrived at ten o’clock to find a handful of punters dancing happily to young upcoming DJ Chidy, they were enjoying his sexy fat beat’s and within half an hour there was almost a full mainroom getting funky to the young lad. By the time eleven o’clock ticked over A-Style had taken to the decks. Now I was already fully aware of this mans ability to DJ, you don’t come 4th in the Vic finals and not have any talent (he would have placed higher but had an equipment failure). And tonight he once again proved he has a big future, his crossfader skills were phenomenal leaving the crowd aching in ecstacy. Surely the latest Star Wars release was responsible for his lightning fast Jedi skills that he displayed. (Nah the dude just rocks)

Just before A-Style finished up, the Loungeroom was opened up and straight off the bat was Family resident Larr, (Anthony Larr) playing his signature fat soulful tunes he had a small group soon going off. Meanwhile A-Style wrapped up and introduced Australia’s  Premier female RnB & HipHop DJ DJ D. This is obviously who many a punter had come to see, because when this stunning DJ started her set Seven’s roof came off.

Having worked and supported acts like Bell Biv Devoe, Green Lantern and Naughty by Nature to name a few certainly shone through with her skills, DJ D had the midas touch on Friday night dropping anthem after anthem all mixed in with modern RnB and HipHop. She had the other DJ’s and crowd mesmerized with her skills, she developed a vibe in the mainroom that would be hard to budge even with Afrika Islam still to come.

At one o’clock there was a huge shift in numbers as everybody except the DJ D faithfull made a beeline for the loungeroom to check out the big man Afrika Islam. Being the son of Afrika Baambatta and having worked with and alongside some of the biggest names in RnB and HipHop such as Chuck D, Micheal Jackson, Ice T and De La Soul has influenced this DJ’s musical tastes and it was noticable to me. Although he played some classic soulful tunes his set seemed to have a darker edge to it, well that’s my opinion anyway. With that and the vibe DJ D was giving out punters seemed to return to the Mainroom leaving the loungeroom a little bit quiet for my liking.

I returned to the mainroom to see DJ D cap off a fantastic set. The Electro House room upstairs was kicking off with a V’s face off with Melbourne warhorse Spacey Space going up against Upcoming DJ Steve Blea’s (Grant Smillie giving him big wraps). Both had solid and funky track selection with the small crowd appreciating their efforts.

Downstairs Simon Sez was on the decks closing out with some phuckin fat ass beats that had an already exaushted crowd back on their feet rockin it out again. Simon commanded a full dance floor and everybody knows that what Simon Sez Go’s, Unfortunately i didn’t get a chance to see FMR V’s Ever battle it out in the loungeroom. But my sources have informed me that they put on a great performance, anyway apoligies Gents.

All in all it was a phenomenal night and the punters that stayed home due to the cold well all I can say is NAH NAH NA NA NAH you missed out and get your ass to the next BlockParty and Seven.

Peace Out

Bryce
