When the good people at Fuzzy planned their latest foray in the Killer (eklektik elektrik muzik) series, which launched in October last year with The Detroit Grand Pubahs and Larry Tee, they must have been up all night, high on coke after a movie marathon, which would have been likely to include ‘Studio 54’, ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘Wonderland’ or films of that similar ilk. Either that or these fuzzy kids just have damn good imaginations for eccentric ideas.
As advertising stated, attendees must be dressed with this one rule in mind, ‘How far would you go to get the part?’ And there would be prizes won on the night for, *Best male outfit, *Best female outfit and *Paparazzi poser, courtesy of Nepean River Caravan Park.
So it was no surprise that upon entry I was met with a roller girl sporting a tennis hat and matching lime green short shorts and tight little polo shirt, lots of leopard print, red bra, short skirt and very little top action, along with mullets, moustaches and a bunch of John Holmes and Larry Flynt look-alikes.
This party was going to be crazy, there were more people dressed to the trash code than not. And those not? Well, let’s just say, they received weirder looks than those that had dug deep and let out their inner freak for the evening.
This all seems a little weird considering that I was in this very same ‘decent’ venue last night and now tonight, the tables had been moved over and Killerwood seemed to have taken over, the bar staff were even dressed for the occasion…I apologise profusely if I am wrong.
This year the soundtrack of electroclash, cock rock, eurodiscosleaze and other random splashes of sound came courtesy of the spinning talents of Sydney’s favourite son Ajax, along with Dave Slade, Mark Murphy and John (Johnno) Wall.
There was more entertainment for your dollar than you could possibly poke a stick at. To the left side room, nearest the toilets, you could remember yourself in all your trailer park trash glory for the rest of your life, by jumping up with friends for school formal type photos which were being taken throughout the night. If that didn’t tickle your fancy and you didn’t get into the groove with Phoenix’s ‘If I Ever Feel Better’ which was just dropped into the mix.
You could stand around at the back of the room people watching; or viewing one of the trashy videos being played on repeat for the entire night on the front of the stage, or even go down to the little karaoke room off to the right (nearest the kitchen) and check out Pip Branson (ex-Sidewinder, SFK) belting out a searing version of Billy Idol’s ‘White Wedding’. He was in turn rewarded Paparazzi poser of the night.
Come 1.30am and that usual suspect, ‘performance artist extraordinaire’ Imogen Kelly made her appearance, as what I would only guess is, the ‘trailer town dancing girls’. As usual she supplied the guys with a visual flesh baring feast and quickly exited the room.
After a little more dancing to the likes of 80s cheese and 70s disco and some killer new millennium filler dropped between, including party liveners ‘Pump Up The Jam’ and ‘Funky Town’ by Pseudo Echo, it came to the awards part of the evening. Our host ‘Shazza’ took to the stage in her 80s cheese outfit (which certainly should have been up there for one of the best outfits, had she not been apart of the proceedings), most eye catching were the flashing heels she was sporting.
After awards were given, it came to the time of the night where we were all looking forward to a perfect ending, as Ajax took over the decks and took us to a cheesy and cock rock heaven. By this stage our over danced feet started to give a little resistance to the idea of staying on, but as soon as The Gunners’ ‘Sweet Child Of Mine’ was mixed in with the usual sound feast of house and electro Ajax is known for dropping, my feet were stuck to the floor, like it or not!
As 3.30am rolled round, it seemed as though we all had the same idea, Hollywood is over and we’re ready to drag our unsuccessful blistered feet home for another week of starving and auditions. Thumbs up to the people at Fuzzy, along with the DJs for the eveing – Ajax, Johnno Wall, Dave Slade and Mark Murphy – for living up to their ‘Killer’ name. And for providing such a wonderful humorously themed night. From the smiles spread wide across everyone’s faces, we all had a great time and look forward to the next installment in the ‘Killer’ series!
