Kink is a night that is not only known for it ability to draw in large crowds, were the girls are pretty and the boys prettier, but their ability to continually host renowned international and local talent. This week at Kink was no different, with Bodyrockers, the British/Aussie duo whose current single “I like the Way” is busting up the charts, set to rock the joint – the beautiful people turned out in record numbers.

The night started out in a quiet yet funky way for most, with the Broke N Beats room playing host to the cooler crowd looking to mingle and bop around whilst second and third rounds for the night were being bought. People lined the edges of the room, catching up and bouncing around. The keen, however, enticed by Chi-Key’s funky beat, grooved around with drinks in hand.

Frenzie took over at the darkest hour and spun out a few recycled tracks, mixed up with hard yet funky beats. His breaks went Latin and rhythm and soul got pumped through the Broke N Beats room towards the end of his set. The dance floor was packed but that didn’t stop the streety kids busting out their moves in an attempt to show each other up.

By midnight the main room had started to “Get Retarded”, while Shamus kicked out some commercial tracks that got the punters all excited. The whole room was dancing – whether you were sitting, or walking, or at the bar, there was definitely a bounce in your step. Even the bar staff were flittering around whilst showing off their flaring skills. Shamus continued to warm the crowd up and lay the foundations of the night for Bodyrockers to take over, with track after track of sultry tracks with sexy vocals, it was hard for the crowd not to get in the mood.

The closer it got to the Bodyrockers set the more packed the main room became, by 1.30 people were claiming their piece of dance floor and the air began to thicken – I’m not sure if it was anticipation or just sweat – but either way things really started to heat up. When the Bodyrockers finally took to the stage, arms lifted and so did voices. These two are the kind of guys that make the girls swoon and the guys jealous! Dylan was dressed in his trademark open shirt rockers get up and was situated up high, while he played – Desperado style – as Kaz took on the role of DJ in a pink shirt that would rival Andy Warhol.

The whole of the Bodyrockers set felt like the offspring of a rock concert and a rave, with the entire crowd entranced by the thick dirty guitar chords and the hard and dark beats. The set had a dirty, filthy, sexy feel to it. The audience was littered with pashers, thrashers and everything in between, all waiting for that one song, the reason they had made the trek. There were arms failing and bootys shaking, and everyone was singing along.

Bodyrockers mixed a series of the hottest dance and rock tracks out at the moment, songs like the Killer’s “Somebody Told Me” and Queens of the Stoneage come to mind, however the highlight for a lot of us was Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang”. Mixed with infinite skill, the song created a dreamy mood, with a touch of sorrow and melancholy.

When Dylan finally took to the stage, mic in hand, everyone knew what time it was, what they had been waiting for – the grittily sexy “I Like The Way”. Hot vocals and a wicked beat spewed out over the long-suffering crowd. They had been waiting so long and it was finally here. With full guitar sounds, the sexy, sexy vocals, and awesome build up, the song was ten times better live than it is in your bedroom. Not a single body in the room was standing still, people were standing on chairs, on tables and on stools to get a glimpse of the rockers. Although the vibe died a little after this song, the Bodyrockers still kept pumping to the eager crowd, proving that they were far more than just one song wonders.

The night proved a success and Bodyrockers showed that they have talent and versatility as performers and musicians, keeping the larger part of the crowd pumped and engrossed for their entire two hour set. And just like usual, Kink put on a classy show, pulled in the pretty crowd and left the late comers waiting in the cold.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
