Turning up to Liberation 9: Winter Wonderland I was amused to find the venue was a brand new, refurbished, very unusual and un-used ‘warehouse-style’ brothel. Walking through the front door, the walls were fuzzy pink outlined in leopard skin fur and had private booths.
The 2 arenas were rather small, but didn’t really pose a problem as everyone seemed to have enough room to dance and the majority of the people were out the back socialising in a very large bar area. A great bonus was the tables and chairs supplied meaning that none of the ravers had to sit on the floor and get more dirty like they normally do.
From the very beginning of the night everyone could see the cops were showing interest, I arrived there at 8:30, half an hour before the rave started. The police were already driving past the venue, pulling people over, and as soon as the party opened, they were inside having a look around and checking the place out.
As the night went on the police came in several times, and each time they came in we noticed the music get softer and softer, till after the last police visit the music was down so low almost no one could hear it. By 2:40am the police had apparently received 22 sound complaints and the cops were there to close it down. Luckily the promoter, Aladdin, managed to talk the police into giving them one more chance and the night went on till the end.
It was a great venue, a lot of people saying the best in years, and a great turnout with around 600+. The only downside being the supposed sound complaints and constant police harassment, but even with these few problems everyone managed to enjoy them selves.
I can’t wait to see what the boys of Aladdin Entertainment can come up with for Liberation 10. It’s bound to be another awesome night.
