After having attended almost every previous Dirty House Sessions event, I walked in to their 1st birthday with high expectations and was not dissapointed.

Arriving nice and early, I was greeted with some nice laid back deeper house sounds being played by Husky on the big Turbosound rig installed for this occasion, which meant the sound was of the highest quality. During the course of Husky’s set, the room gradually started to fill out more and as the crowd grew, so did the music, gradually progressing from the deeper sounds, taking the tempo up slightly.

Following Husky was Jools and Illya, they impressed the crowd with their back to back set at the previous Dirty House Sessions event, and showed us once more just how well they work together. The pair continued to pick up the pace a little more from Husky, playing quite a variety of tunes, ranging from jazzier stuff to a much darker and dirtier house sound towards the end of their set, ready for Chris to follow on with.

By the time Jools and Illya were half way through their set the crowd was well into party mode and the venue was nearing capacity. The two had everyone on the floor dancing and enjoying themselves, creating a brilliant party vibe throughout the room.

It finally hit 1am, and the venue was packed to the rafters with a friendly and up for it crowd ready for the first international of the night, Chris Lum. Having only seen Chris play once before I wasn’t too sure exactly what to expect from him this time around, but he certainly managed to surprise and impress both myself and the crowd.

Continuing on from Jools and Illya, Chris kept the music flowing, continuing the same pace but gradually picking it up and changing direction. He continued to take the music down a dark, dirty and quite fast paced path, keeping everyone on their feet down and on the floor dancing right through his set.

After Chris left the decks at around 3am, the Deep House Project Crew (Mike Acetate – Sydney and Carlos Gibbs – San Fran) took over and gradually changed direction again, this time continuing with the dirty house but occasionally dropping bits of acid here and there. Both Mike and Carlos really seemed to be enjoying themselves and the crowd were certainly getting into the variety too.

Following on from this was the Jackal and Frenzie who kept the music pumping till the end. Unfortunately by this time, alcohol was getting the better of me and I decided to call it a night at around 5am. Even as I was leaving there was still quite a large crowd in both rooms of the venue and everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Overall, it was an excellent night out. The music was solid, the mixing was excellent by all DJs, and the vibe was brilliant. The only negative things I have to say is that it’s a shame Jools, Illya and Chris Lum didn’t get longer set times. I left for home feeling impressed with the night overall. Excellent work by The Jackal, Heffo and the rest of the Dirty House Sessions crew!
