It was yet another successful and well received event as The Church hosted Euphonic featuring Germany’s own Ronski Speed last Saturday night. Joining Ronski on the wheels of steel was two of The Church resident DJ’s; Kenny L (recently voted #1 W.A DJ in the 2005 ITM/Technics DJ Poll) and John Paul (recently voted #6 W.A DJ in the 2005 ITM/Technics DJ Poll) and they were joined by DeeJay V. Ronski Speed has long been held in high esteem in the international trance arena as both a reputed producer, remixer and of course DJ.
As doors opened at 9pm, Kenny L was up on the decks first, dropping a range of trance tracks both new and old to the enjoyment of the few eager punters that had begun to make their way in. From here, the sets alternated between Kenny L and John Paul each hour until Ronski’s set at 2am. Working through such a huge volume of tracks, The Church residents did what they did best; they amped up the crowd and got the dance floor heaving at the seams before midnight had even approached. By this stage, the upstairs area had also opened and the entire club had become a sea of people; there were punters everywhere, it was well and truly packed.
Leading up to 2am, it was Kenny L that had the task of preparing punters for the trance excursion Ronski was set to take them on. He maintained the perfect balance between blatant trance and slightly harder beats to ensure those on the dance floor had a good work out as well as holding the attention of the many trance enthusiasts around the room. His flowing mixes highlighted his mighty fine support set; more than preparing the room for the man like Ronski to deliver what was truly an awesome set.
As Ronski Speed hit the decks at 2am, it was clear that this was the moment most punters in the room had been waiting for. With a massive MC intro from Kenny L, Ronski’s first track was underway and the dance floor as well as the overlooking balcony on the second level was jam packed with punters cheering and shouting for Ronski. Starting out on a surprisingly techy note, Ronski kept it on this slightly hard level for a while, amping up the room with a range of synths combined with fairly techy percussion. He then moved onto his trademark uplifting sound, which is where he kept his set for its remainder. Quite well known anthems combined with many upfront tracks made for a well received combination; the crowd loved hearing a few well known tunes amongst the sea of relatively unknown ones. Perhaps one of the hugest moments of his set was when Ronski dropped his own bootleg of Young Parisians – Jump the Next Train vs. Thrillseekers – Synaesthesia. One of the most loved crowd favourite tracks at The Church at the moment would have to be Jump the Next Train and upon hearing this bootleg, the crowd went absolutely crazy about it; singing and dancing along to the words. Ultra smooth and quite quick mixes dominated Ronski’s well programmed set, which allowed the tunes to do most of the talking.
As 4am approached, DeeJay V and John Paul reclaimed control of the decks and proved they certainly have the goods to make the crowd go ‘woah’ as they blasted out a trance set of the slightly harder and definitely techy variety. Crowd favourites mixed with a few lesser known tracks composed their back to back set which managed to keep the dance floor as packed as it was during the internationals set. Playing tune for tune, the DJ’s kept the assault of beats coming; ensuring that even if you were all danced out, you at least had a bit of head bopping action going on! Kenny L then stepped up and kept the tracks coming for the final set of the night. His tunes managed to still keep many eager punters on the dance floor, despite the fact that the end of the night was close by.
Judging by the huge number of punters still present at the club at close as well the stoked faces on each of them as they left was a definite testament to the success of the night. There was a friendly and more than up for it crowd present and the music was quality for the nights entirety; the perfect combination for a wicked night out. Yes, this was another successful and kick ass night out at The Church.. yet again!
