Major Break was in town again for its second installment and had big shoes to fill after last years massive event. Party favourite and regular visitor, Krafty Kuts was holding fort at Gilkenson’s whilst on his first Visit to Australia, one half of JDS – Darren Pearce – was rocking the sounds of the underground at Ambar Nightclub. With toight loik a toiger local support on the bill this was set to be one huge night.

On arrival, it was apparent that the calls of “sold out” weeks in advance were indeed true (gee how could it be) and those that had been SMSing all and sundry trying secure were indeed “dreaming” when I saw the line outside Gilkensons around an hour before Krafty was due to go on. It was a similar story outside Ambar with the line going around the corner. Upon entering the club Prizzy was rocking a half full club with most people chatting and enjoying an early drink whilst listening to the funky but party driven set the Prizzler was knocking out.

Next up was the habitat host, Flex, who warmed up the crowd with a nice tech house and techy breaks driven set. Tunes such as Hypers Overseer Doomsday remix and Circuit Breakers remix of Deibeat’s “We Rock the Party” then , call it a tribute or call it disrespectful , dropped the act to be JDS’s Purple Funky Monkey which got the crowd nice n’ raring to go for JDS who was to follow.

Pearce stepped up to an absolutely rammed but not overcrowded dance floor and followed on where Flex left off with a mix of techy four to the floor and breaks. With 2 and a half hours to work his Magic, JDS built up his set effectively not going all out too early on with the crowd moving along nicely. The second half of his set was filled with old favourites Purple Funky Monkey and a nice Groove is in the Heart remix followed by material from the new album “Jump Around” and “Get Freaky”.

With the long time standing behind the decks getting to Pearce, he needed to go “refreshen” himself, leaving the decks unmanned. Timing is everything as they say and sure enough the CDJ dropped out half way through a tune to cheers and whistles from the crowd. Micah was on hand to restart it from the beginning but alas stopped at the same point. On return to the decks, JDS apologised to the crowd and amped up proceedings with the party breaks and huge breakdowns that JDS is known for. Finishing on a high with their huge tune of the last couple of years, “Blackout”.

WA’s ITM Top 50 Dj Micah and the Dj Ninja himself, Wish were on hand to rock the house until the wee hours. With many staying right till the end.

Major break was again another success for its second year round and proving to be a nice break between “Breakfest” innings from the boomtick crew. Krafty apparently went off from all reports and JDS certainly didn’t disappoint. Roll on Parklife!
