As the conglomerates of house aficionados gathered at the foothills of event-central
Ambar, the local DJ line made the decks nice and toasty before San Francisco guru and
head-honcho of house Chris Lum made his appearance before the masses.

Names included Max Landy – beginning to gain an avid listenership around town and
of course promoter/DJ/and all things musical, Flex took to the decks amping up the floor
with some electro-house concoctions that perhaps skirted the genres of dub, tech and a
taste of breaks. Flex really opted for a crowd-shake up making it easy for Lum to fill the
transition.
Chris Lum, known by reputation for his work on various
labels including OM, Nightshift and the infamous Loveslap records, graced the room of
Ambar for the connoisseurs offering nothing below expectations. I could have sworn some
of the more upbeat tracks derived from his own Moulton Studios as well as the well-known
Jill Scott remix of “He Loves Me”. Some of the tracks were familiar – hearing reworked
numbers of Kaskade, Jay-J, (including Freaks Like Us) a bit of Fred Everything and some of
his own style of tracks, Lum kept the levels where Flex had left off and kept the dance floor
mobile.
Once the clock struck three however, the situation regressed –
leaving the upbeat sound of house behind and letting the diva, San Francisco style waltz in.
People familiar with this vibe will know what I mean – as the bpm’s took a bit of a backseat
and let more vocal, melody driven tracks come to the forefront. This caused the numbers to
deplete a little, as the energy once invested into the earlier time of his set began to fade
away.
Finishing a little more downtempo and chilled style the act carried on with
Ben Mac taking the reigns before the winner of Flex’s Superstar DJ finished off the night.

All-in-all not a bad turnout minus the 3am evacuation but the good vibe
created in the night was clearly noticeable.
