“Voodoo Child” is one of the “Rouge Traders” number one hit and has been on the charts for the past few months. The Traders have recently changed their style of music from rock, which can now be classified as electro, funky house, or pop.

I arrived at Academy about 11pm and I have to admit the club was pretty dead at the time. The candy bar was closed and everyone was restricted to standing near the downstairs bar or in the Pod. Jeff Drake & Mikah Freeman were playing their joint set when we walked on to the empty dance floor. These two amazing DJs really know how to whip a crowd into shape. After a few songs, one in particular that got me pumping was “I got – Fast Crew”, the dance floor started to fill up with people and fans.

At about 12.30am the club was getting louder and the crowd was getting more and more excited to see the Rouge Traders. The Suckers DJS from the UK came on about 1ish and played an awesome set with some really different, yet trippy house tunes. They did play a wicked remix of “Drop the Pressure – Mylo”. Some of their mixing was a bit out of sync, but hey… they did a great job.

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances the whole evening was not running on schedule and The Rouge Traders did not come on till about 3am. By this stage the crowd was starting to become a bit restless.

When the Rogue Traders finally came on, they performed a fantastic set! They played a really funky remix of “we interrupt this program – Coburn” and then finally what everyone had been waiting for “Voodoo Child” – Their number one hit! The dance floor was packed with smiling faces again!

At about 4.30am Milkbar Nick came on and did an amazing job with the very little dancing crowd which still remained.

I think that $20 was a bit overpriced for DJs (Sucker Dj’s) as many uninformed people had never heard of them before, and the fact that there has been a lot of snow on the chilly winter slopes possibly kept punters away.

Congratulations to the Friction Boys for putting on another great night at another great Club! Looking forward to the next one!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
