The sounds of Plump DJs, When Funk Hits the Fan, greeted us on arrival to Ambar on Saturday night, courtesy of Armee. The small crowd wasn’t enough stop Armee and Fdel from busting out some massive tunes including Stanton Warriors remix of Alter Ego and Soul of Man’s Get Down to get the crowd dancing before Deadly Avenger stepped up the decks.
Deadly Avenger kicked off his set with a bungra version of Eminem’s Without Me. This got the crowd to it’s feet and for the next 40 minutes were dancing to the sounds of commercial r’n’b, topped off by Sean Paul’s Shake That Thing. Although this isn’t the sound that Ambar is used to, the dancing crowd didn’t seem to mind at all. Deadly Avenger moved to breaks with Funky Town- Skool of Thought, before Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up got a roaring reception from the dance floor. Deadly Avenger closely followed this with Firestarter- Prodigy before Deekline and Wizards Outta Space Remix finished out the diverse and highly entertaining 2 hour set.
Cut la Roc took over the decks at 3 to a still small crowd, however they weren’t going anywhere and they were soon treated to Rennie Pilgrim’s anthem Emit Collect. Cut La Roc also deviated from conventional breaks, mixing in Vertigo by U2, before getting the crowd to their feet with Fat Boy Slim’s Build ‘em Up, (Tear ‘Em Down). As the night wore on and the crowd started to thin, Cut la Roc get the dedicated dancing with Mylo’s Drop the Pressure before handing over the decks to Karlsav.
Karl started his set with Next in Line, his own tune followed by Deibeat’s No Artichokes and a new Smithmonger tune called “Biggy” before it was called a night.
All in all it was an enjoyable night. Although the crowd was small they made up for it on the dance floor.
